I just got my set of HD valve springs and was wondering about the best tool to use. I did a search and it sounds like the type that squeezes the spring top and bottom is the choice most have used. Removal of injector lines necessary? It looks like it might be kind of tricky to get it in there.

Anybody ever use a lever type that uses a bolt into the top of the head?

Thanks

Use the screw-type of compressor, they work the best. You can get one at NAPA for less than $20. Removal of the injector lines is not needed, there is plenty of room to get the compressor in there. Just be sure the piston is all the way up. Use the companion cylinder method... Watch for the rocker arms on the companion cylinder to be at crossover, then the piston in the cylinder you are working on will be at TDC. Companion cylinders are 1 & 6, 2 & 5, and 3 & 4. Be sure to have a couple of extra collets handy in case you lose one. :D Other than that, it's a breeze! :D

The only other thing I can add is when your at TDC on the Cly you working on, you can back it off a little then compress the spring but leave the collets attached and roll the motor over and watch the valve raise up as it has slack to move up and down, gives you a since of security knowing the valve is hitting the piston prior to breaking everything loose. Put rags around the spring before you pop it loose cause the collets will fly:mad:

Once you pick up a compressor, try it out before you even pop the hood. The heavy springs will be harder to work with than the stock so you will know right away if the springs are going to stay put or pop out of the compressor.
