Can I replace valve stem seals with the head on the truck 99 ?
Oil coming out of the exhaust manifold at number one cylinderMy first question is how do you know the valve stems are bad?

I dearly hope not but yes definitely possible going to pull the valve cover off get the tool and see what I can see I really don’t feel like doing another engine rebuild right now it’ll probably get ran if that’s the caseOK, is it possible its a broken ring?
That’s the plan for now . Truck has unknown miles and I do know it came off the oil fields it’s been beat pretty badNot an expert here but do the number 1 seals FIRST then see if it helps.
Good luck!!!
We did this on a buddy of mine's truck some years back. Check Geno's Garage for the valve spring compressor tool (different one for 12v than 24v). We brought each piston up to TDC, used calve spring compressor tool, removed keepers, loosened the tool removed (1 at a time) each spring, then the seal, new seal, replace spring, next and etc. ending with recompressing springs and keepers. I "think" in the FSM there's instruction on procedure.
