Has anyone tried Schaeffers oil products

Which would you choose, Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w40 or Amsoil 15w40 heavy duty? Seems the price is about the same. Only difference is shipping with the amsoil.

Seems I heard that the Extreme was not a "true" synthetic and that they were able to classify it as such through some loop-hole. :)

Its your truck, your money so put the oil in you want to. The engine will go many a mile on which ever one you chose.

Your comparison is a little lopsided. You have Valvolines best against Amsoils mid range oil. Amsoil would be my choice, but I only use the Series 3000 in the 5W-30. I recommend only it to others as well.

Stake, i just switched from the PB extreme back to Delo 400. The engine seems a lot happier-- less rattle and smoother running. I remember we talked about this a bit at ATS, and I can tell you I won't mess with the PBX anymore. I will only run either Delo or a REAL synthetic, like Amsoil, Redline, Delvac 1 or Royal purple.

I would LOVE to run the RL again, but I just can't see DOUBLE the price of even Amsoil!! The Redline is $30 a gallon!!!! My engien loved the RL, but it's gonna have to get by on dino for a little while.

I have good results with the Amsoil but I use the series 3000. It is very popular with the VW crowd because it seems to control soot better than other oils. The EGR makes soot an issue.

I think most oils today are very good by yesterdays standards. The hard part is getting what you pay for. The "loophole" referred to above does exist and it allows for a lot of deception. If I understand it correctly, the re-refined (used) motor oil I used to buy back in the 70's for my junkers could now be call synthetic because the second refining process cracks the hyro carbons. But I never understood or liked chemistry so feel free to correct me.

The Amsoil is a good product and you will get what you pay for.

Hohn,

I remember our conversation about oil and how much you liked the RL. Switching from Rotella 15w40 to the PBX gained me 2 psi boost. That is a significant difference. Yes, the motor does seem to rattle more with PBX. I have not tried delo yet.

Not really the question ask... ... But personally I prefer Mobil Delvac 1. ;)

Well I know you are trying to compare on a dollar for dollar basis, but it can not be done. You are looking at a true 100% synthetic oil verses and synthetic blend. I can make you a glass of orange juice out of 100% oranges and charge two bucks. Or I can make a glass of orange juice made with 70% oranges and 30% clam juice, which one would you rather have for your two bucks??

I personally don't care what oil you use (or which drink you would prefer) it is your truck and your money. But it you are going to comparison shop, do it on equal terms. The Ford Diesel is about the same as a Dodge diesel, so according to you there is no difference? Right??
