Feeling shudder in the brakes and steering wheel...

Well, I have had this box for about a week now, and holy %$#&. Oo. This thing runs like a scalded dog. I had previously posted my dyno runs with the C3. 2, and this box is definitely stronger than that one. It will light the tires on both of the tunes that I am running. They made custom tunes for my truck and the mods that I have. I cannot say enough about the power, I mean, it is there whenever you want it. There is a thread over on Dieseltruckresource http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/showthread.php?t=145903. There seems to be a ton of power to be made with this box and this box alone. I just wish that someone would throw a built transmission my way. I am finding it harder and harder to control my right foot. I hope to get back on the dyno in the next couple of weeks. As far as fuel economy goes, I am gonna fill up tonight or tomorrow and get some numbers. This is going to be a winner. Any questions fire away.

COOL! They have always had a good rep.

Tell us what kind of mileage, and Dyno #s you end up with, also , how are your EGT's?

pressure or timing??

Can you tell us if this box is a pressure box or a timing box or both. Also wondering how it is controlled on/off. Also, how many HP does it claim to add. Thanks for the info!

This is right from VanAaken's website

SmartBox C5 – Option 1

The SmartBox C5 will be available for all CR Dodge Ram from 2003 – 2006. It gives adjustments to fuel pulse width, pressure and injection timing on all models and also gives adjustment of boost pressure on the later models that have electronically regulated boost (2004. 5 up).

The module will come standard with a 5 position lighted segment switch. The module will come programmed with 5 predetermined tunes varying from economy to moderately high performance (app 120 h/p). .

SmartBox C5 – Option 2

The 2nd level will be the SmartBox C5 with the vA Commander monitor to function as the switch as well as provide the safety defueling based upon egts, engine temp or trans temp. There is a pillar pod mount for the vA Commander available as an option.

This package should be offered with 5 module settings that vary from economy to high performance (app 160 h/p).

SmartBox C5 – Option

The 3rd level option will be the Smartbox C5, SmartMap software, tuning lead & programming power source. The SmartBox C5 will come with 5 pre-programmed settings that range from economy to high performance (app 175 h/p). The module will come standard with a 5 position lighted segment switch. The user will then have the capability to alter any of the tuning files, using a laptop computer, & save as desired. There will be a comprehensive user guide provided with the tuning software. This will allow the user to tune his module for optimum performance with any other modifications they may have.

Any C5 module purchased as option 1, or 2 can be upgraded to allow custom programming for a fee.

The vA Commander can be added at any time, to allow for monitoring and safety defuel.

The tuning software will be available for download from our website, but will not be functional until mated with the appropriate C5 module.

I want one!

THis sounds like the ticket! I wonder if it will do away with having to stack boxes? I would love to get away from having to stack boxes to get the power I am looking for!

Sounds like the closest thing to EFI Live for us Dodge owners. If you can adjust fuel pulse width, pressure and injection timing, and boost to your own personal specifications, it sounds to me like the days of stacking to acheive the desired results are over. In addition to that, many users should be able to see significant gains in power and driveability when the time is taken to adjust the programming to specific vehicle mods. I'm looking forward to seeing the real world results. I hope this is the product I've been waiting for...

Corrected: I spoke with a tech over at VA. The C5 is a pressure, duration and timing box; should be out by end of May.

They have gotten 300 hp with this box, (not stacked) so I think that it is safe to say that the days of having to stack to get big numbers are numbered. As far as the "closest thing to EFI Live", that (EFI Live) is living a little more dangerous than I would like. They (dmax people) have full reign with programming the ECM, whereas with the C5, you will just be changing the information that the ECM recieves, therefore you shouldn't be able to fry your computer. If I am wrong about the EFI Live, someone please correct me. I filled up the truck yesterday after driving 500+ miles and by hand got 17. 94 mpg. Those miles were about 70% city. That is about 1. 5 mpg better than I normally get with these kind of miles.

can you adjust at all rpm levels. like less fuel at the start to control smoke and then poor it on after that. that would be great since i can't drive without blocking four lanes of traffic with both my boxes. and by the way if so i will have a crazy larry and mp8 for sale.

About the pressure settings. .

Are there selections on the multi position switch in Option 1 that don't have pressure - or - do you have to get the Option 3 to alter files for no pressure?
