I have the opportunity to buy a used VA from a 2001 auto. Will this box work in my 99' auto, or is the defueling program during the shifts not compatible? Thanks.

Davey, it will work fine. The defueling during shifts on the 01's is in the Dodge computer, not the VA. Have the guy let you try it first, then you will buy it for sure:)

Well, I got to try the box today and it put my truck into limp mode, caused my transmission to shift like ***p and caused my "check engine" to come on. Before it went into limp mode it smoked quite a bit off idle before the boost built up. Any ideas?

Some smoke off idle is normal on my '99 - works real good for the a$$ that just cut you off... grab 5th gear and floor it while the ehaust pipe is well positioned.

Mine has never put me in limp mode, I'd check you connections to the VP. I heard that the newer VA boxes connected to the MAP sensor also. Does yours? Mine does not. The PE box I had connected to the MAP sensor and would set the "Check Engine" light off every time I got into the throttle too much. If checking the connections proves fruitless, removed the VA and plug everything back in as normal. If the check engine light doesnt go out, remove the battery cables for a couple of minutes (A mechanic friend told me to do this, though I'm unsure if it works). Hook them back up, and if the check engine light stay on still, the code will have to be read and reset using a scan tool.

Good Luck!

I recently had a situation on my truck that caused a "check engine" light. Since I had caused it, I corrected it but light still would not go out. Tried disconnecting batteries, still didn't go out. A friend told me, "It will go out after 3 or 4 start-ups". And it did.

Cant say if this is your case . The first box I had needed to be returned for going into limp mode and setting the falt code. There was a "Bad Batch" of the early models . . Mine was returnd from where i Bought it . And it was replaced. . I have not heard of any of the one in the last year or so going bad . . Maybe someone that knows more on this can help. .

Ramboy - the code is still stored. You'll need a scan tool to get rid of it. I didnt think disconnecting the batteries would work, but I thought it would be worth a try.

The code is stored in the PCM on the firewall - mine set the codes both in the PCM and the engine control ECM. I'm not sure if the codes in the ECM were reset or not. I hope so! I'll have to study my service manual a bit. I'll write back after looking.

 WOW... . setting off codes??? I thought the VA is suppose to be invisible? Not many people have access to a scan tool to reset the codes, which means that the dealer will find out, which means warranty issues. Does installing an Edge EZ pose the same possible problem?

a snap on scan tool should be able to erase all the codes .

davey , thats weird , put the truck into limp mode , i never had more than 20 psi boost with just a VA on my 2000 . even if that va connected into the map sensor you wouldn't be able to connect it as the connectors are different between a 99 and an '01 so that is out . did you have the connector on the pump seated well ?

a Snap-On scan tool was used to erase the codes the PE left in my truck. There is a scan tool in the Summit racing catalog for OBDII that runs $400... . I'll betcha it would work too. .

What were the circumstances when it went into limp mode? Did it run right at all after the VA went on? I ask becase a transmission overheat is a common cause of limp mode, and the connections with the injection pump should have nothing to do with the transmission. Seems weird. The VA will huff a bit of smoke off idle if you nail it, that part is normal.
