I got a week in Vancouver BC Canada scheduled with 28 foot RV in August. Can I get some suggestion on where to park and thinks to see between there and say Whislter Mt. I heard of horseshoe bay, any comments or ideas will be great appreciated. First time in that part of the country. Joe

We stayed in Burnaby a couple of times. I believe it is the Cariboo? park. Nice park, good location.

Stanley Park is worth at least one full day. Lots more to see and do.

We took our rig over to Victoria Island for a few days. If you can get there, Buchart Gardens is a very full day and worth every second.

That area is nice to visit. Lots of friendly people, lots to see.

Enjoy, John

Canada

Don't know much about Vancouver - but Victoria is abeuatiful place. Buchart Gardens and he Provinicial Museum is a must see. .

Victoria is my favorite place in Canada. If you are going to Victoria- take the ferry at Twassen (SP) it in the far west corner of BC - very easy on - the wait is not bad at all. Big ferry's. .

Just back from there yesterday after spending 6 days. Have several tips for you. First, use exit 275 off of I-5 rather than going thru the Peace Arch. It is the commercial exit, much shorter waiting time. Fuel up before going in to CN. I stayed at Burnaby Cariboo RV Park. Very, very nice, but spaces are tight. I would recommend calling for a reservation ahead. DO NOT take Hiway #1A, but use Highway #1. Yes, I got on the wrong blanking #$%^#@^&*#$ Hiway. Use public transportation, bus and Skytrain as much as possible. Definitely do Whistler. DO NOT take RV up there. Bout a 2 hr drive and well worth it. DO SEE Shannon Falls, bout 1/2 way to Whistler. Do see Stanley Park. Grouse Mountain sky train is well worth it and on the way up, Capilano suspension bridge (foot traffic). I took a Gray Line tour one day which included the above activities except Whistler and it was well worth it. DO NOT take RV over to Victoria, would cost you a bloody fortune. But if you have time take the ferry over and Butcharts gardens and the Parliament building, inner harbour are incredible. Hope this is of some help. Have fun and drive careful.

Thankd for the tips, as you just been there, your inside is a real help. Now all that left is remine the wife the Truck goes to DTT for a day in the middle of the week. But Sharon been helping plan a family outing day in that direction.

I hers about a gashouse district, did you see it.

thanks Joe

You're welcome. Couple of other thoughts. As mentioned in this post, Burnaby is really quite central to all activities. Also, I screwed up, the Grouse Mountain thing is not a train, but rather a tram that goes 3700 ft (45% angle) straight up. And... ... ... . Horseshoe bay is the start of the Whistler trip. The reason that I was talking about public transporation is that the streets are Gdamn narrow in that town. Any, by the way, did I mention that there is almost 2. 5 million people in that city? The only thing wrong with the Grey Line tour is that it doesn't stop long enough in certain areas, for instance Queen Elizabeth park and Stanley Park and Grouse Mountain. But I learned, and if I had it to do again, now that I know, I would take the double decker bus and you can stay as long as you like in any given area, but since I didn't know the area, I AM NOT sorry that I did it the way I did. What one should do is take the tour first to learn your way around and then on another day take the double decker! Keep your wife off of Robson Street (Gucci, Gucci, etc) or you will not have enough money left to do any mods. Yes, I did see Gas Town from the tour, but didn't go back. I should have, really quite neat. Good luck on your mods, I am envious but I will be addressing that issue later as even my wife was impressed on how my/our truck performed on the way to Whistler. I am going to put in 275's next and hope that the Torque Converter holds together until I can get an ATS upgrade.

Regards,

Roger

the capilano suspenion bridge is a must.

just hold on to your kids ;)

remember the wacko? :(

Stanley Park is awesome too.

Enjoy Bill and the Crew ;) and give my regards :)

Serious Cash

Hi Joe,

Assuming you have an automatic, don't recall you signature, you are gonna need some serious cash to visit DTT. Bout $2400 USA dollars for TC, Valve body and TC saver installed. May as well get a set of DD1's $475. 00 while you are at it. You will definitely have to keep the wife off of Robson street. Abbottsford, by the way is only bout 30 minutes from Burnaby. Best of luck and congragulations on your upgrades.

Roger

Only a small DTT upgrade

Hi RC

I am only doing a VB at DTT, as we planning to trade the truck for a 2003 as soon as the RE48 auto tranmissions are out. Which appear to be in February 2003 from what I read. The standard towing capacity on the 3/4 ton is going to be upto 11,400 and 13,400 based on what I read for 3. 73. and 4. 10. I need the VB to ensure the Comp and my new (used) 44' car 3 axle enclose car hauler does not tear up the transmission between now and the trade-in. , I running the Comp as adjustible easy no pump wire. just buying some insurance for the winter.

Joe, You might want to spend a couple of days in Whistler there is lots of things to do. I tow my fifth wheel up there once in a while and stay at the Riverside RV Park. It is about one mile past the village and has full hook ups, nice site. Also the Cariboo RV Park in Burnaby is a good central location . As Roger said DTT is about 30 minutes of easy driving down the #1 , don't forget to stop at Piers shop in Surrey it's on your way. :D

Otis,

Didn't know there was a Piers shop in BC. Am looking to get DD1's installed at a good price. Can you provide me with a telephone number? Not wanting to pay more than $475 USA dollars plus installation.

Roger

Thanks for the information Otis. Called Piers and their price is $400US + $128 installation. Is that a good deal? Also, I apologize for moving off of the original thread and talking about injectors.

Roger

Lots of good suggestions above.

Let me add one about campgrounds. We stayed several days at this one:

http://www.capilanorvpark.com/

Within a couple of blocks are a mall, with grocery, and stops on the public transportation network. It's directly across the narrows from Stanley Park, and almost under the north end of the Lion's Gate Bridge.

Full hookups, cheap when you consider the $$ exchange ratio, and clean. The desk will book your reservations wherever you need them.

We left the trailer here and did a day trip to Whistler - glad we left it.

We did the dinner train that goes out along the shoreline and enjoyed that. Also the UBC Botanical Garden. We also did a lot of the things others have mentioned.

Vancouver is a great tourist town, but do be prepared if you see some rough areas. Like any large city, it has problems in spots with drugs and prostitution.

Have fun. DBF
