i got some 60 lb springs to put in , can any one give me some detailed instrutions, and also what are the torque specs. on the head bolts that hold the rokers on?

p. s. gonna change all 12

I"m watching ???/

I want to change my exhaust valves springs also ! was wondering if they can be changed on compression stroke ,or do I need to take the head off ??

Pick a cylinder and roll engine to TDC on that cylinder.

Loosen small rocker tower bolt first and remove, then the head bolt on the tower next.

Use spring compressor to change out springs on that cylinder. (good idea to lay rags over head to catch retainers, just in case they pop out).

Check head bolt length for stretch and clean bolt and block hole before reinstalling. Be careful realigning tower on head.

Install large head bolt first and torque to 120 ftlbs. (this varies, depending to who you talk to) then torque small bolt on tower to 18ftlbs.

Repeat order for other cylinders. When finished, reset valve lash for intake and exhaust.

??? TDC

NEWBE ???

HOW DO YOU GET TDC ,OR JUST TRY TO GET CLOSE ?to the cylinder your working on ! when intake valve comes up ,how much more do you turn crank ?????or should I not be a backyard mechanic

valves

;) I think what Mark is saying is that if both valves on any cylinder are closed and you have clearance on the stem, then the piston is up close to tdc(not critical, just both valves clearanced) and you can change that spring or springs. You need the timing sequence when you set the final clearance on all the valves, which is covered in this forum as well. Mark, correct me if i'm wrong! Just a note, why all 12? Tim
