Was wondering if anyone has any experience using this GPS in a CTD? ( http://www.gpsexplorer.com/VCommand-Voice-Navigation-System--P434.aspx ). Its an automotive GPS system without a screen; instead it just speaks to you (including naming the street you're to turn on!) and it has voice recognition, so you input your destination by speaking it, plus it can recognize voice commands such as "I'm lost", "Where am I?", "No turn", and "Recalculate route".
I use GPS a lot in rental cars, and find that I really only need the screen to look at things that the voice doesn't tell me... such as the name of the street to turn onto. Plus, inputting destinations via the typical hunt-and-peck method is waaay too tedious... being able to just spell the address sounds way cool. And, I don't like having my eyes off the road long enough to study a tiny little GPS screen.
The big question, I think, is does the VCommand's voice recognition work well in the noisy environment of a 2nd Gen CTD cab? I have some previous experience with voice recognition software, and its my experience that voice recognition systems get easily confused by background noise, so I'm not hopeful it would work well in a CTD... but a lot depends on the quality and type of the microphone in question.
