Last night me and my brother were out goofing around with my old 93 ctd , it has been leaking were the throttle linkage goes into the pump, Well he talked me into taking the linkage and return spring off to see if there was a seal that would be easy to replace, I have replace many vp-44 but this is the first time I have messed with a ve , how can I get it back together and make it run, the bad part is it would start on the first crank before we did this and now I cant get it to fire at all, I noticed the rod that comes out of the pump is adjustable when you put linkage on but how do I find the right position,to put the linkage on. I am going to have pull the pump to reseal it but I wanted to get it running right first before pull it, this time to mark all the settings.

If you turn that shaft in the direction it would turn as you throttle up you can feel when the spring inside tensions at that point then place you linkage back on it as it would sit at idle touching the idle adjust screw. Try it and be prepared for run away although I don't think it will.

And if that doesn't do it, turn it another notch. You did see the reference marks right?

Check the stickies, they have lots of info and pics.

The seal is an o-ring, the top of the pump needs to come off to replace. It's on the shaft. The bushing or shaft may need to be replaced if there is excessive play.
