VE Governor Spring change

After watching the video posted about changing the spring and reading the pamphlet that came with the spring I began the job and failed to notice the relationship of the slot in the throttle shaft with the tick marks on the plate. (Not clear in either reference) Everything was stuck together pretty well with residue and it came apart fairly difficultly. Anyway, am I up the creek on this and need to take it to a pump shop, or is there a basic setting to begin with. The pump has 160,000 miles on it but ran well the last time I started it. How many miles do most get before needing a rebuild. Thanks for the info.

The most basic setting seems to be this " \ "

It's 1 mark down from the top left, and one mark up from bottom right.

I looked at the slot when I got all the stuff off and realized I had gone too far and that was approximately the position, thanks, we'll start there.

I finished the job this afternoon and could do it again in half the time if the occasion arises. What happens if I have the positioning plate with the tick marks off a tooth or two. I assume the engine either won't idle or will rev at mid throttle. I guess I could adjust it bit by bit from there. Does anyone know a procedure for this mess up? Thanks.

Yes. That is your best bet. And, you are correct with the engine speed.



Looking at the throttle arm, thwere are two sets of tick marks. Two sets of five marks I belive and the set of marks are opposite of that hole which the shaft sets in.



One set will be further from you and the other closer. The set of marks furthest from you; count over TWO (2) marks starting from the furthest mark on the right to the left.



On the opposite set of marks, count over TWO (2) marks starting from the left to the right. These two marks are the two which the centerline of the throttle shaft align with.



You will want that throttle shaft to be turned in the direction of slow idle speed, as far as it will go, then set that throttle arm with the tick marks dwon on that. Pull the shaft upwards with your fingers and set the lever ontop of that shaft to align the marks.



These truck pumps are all the same here. I have had many apart and yet to see one different.

Thanks again, I think I'll have to tweak it a little from where I have it now. It is at one and four. Can't wait to fire it up but I'm waiting for my cab to be painted and put back on. On the road for summer I'm sure.
