Hi,

I'm working on my father-in-laws 92 dodge 2x4 truck. It is leaking fuel at the injection pump. After cleaning it off and letting it sit - no leaks. Start it and it seeps very slowly at the seem between - I'll call it the head and the body. See picture.

Can this be resealed or is this the common place they leak and it needs to be rebuilt?

Thanks for your help!

Likely a O ring that is starting to go with time due to age, and the crappy fuel we now have. These IPs were not designed for such fuels and the chemical reaction with the rubber and fuels cause the o rings to shrink.

At some point, it will become more than a small leak. Its a matter of when you fix it and likely less of an if.

You may get a year, may get 10. But it will likely not go away. :(

It the pump has never been off and resealed it is due. There are updates to the internals and seals that are well worht having it gone thru. Leaks never get better. ;)

Thanks for all the replies. I figured it needed rebuilt, just wanted to make sure it wasn't something simple.

Now for my next post on the how to..... so I'll start another thread.

Mine started leaking there right after the ULSD came out. I bought a seal/oring kit from the local Bosch rebuilder for $21. Took the pump off and put new orings in it on the dining room table. You just have to be careful when you put the back end on you put some grease on the balls to keep them from falling off inside. If they do, when you start it it will rev really fast. Ask me how I know! You have be able to replace that oring without taking it off the truck if your careful. I found out on the Jetta TDI which has the similar pump you can replace it on the car.

If you do it your self you need to be very carful not get any dirt in the pump, every thing needs to extremly clean.

With 250,000 miles on it and it isn't mine I took the pump off and brought it to get it rebuilt. I'll post later how it turns out.

Thanks for all the info.
