VE Pump timing and tools
Yes, I always set the timing with a dial gauge ... .
The spec for non I/C is 1. 50 mm and the I/C engines is 1. 25mm...
It is better to set the pump with a hair more advance than it is to have it retarded. .
Not setting the pump properly can cause poor fuel economy. Poor performance
and possible engine damage !
Timing/replacing the pump VE pump is easy once some one shows you how to do it. The manual can be a bit confusing. . You also need the proper tools as well.
I had been considering making a video on how to to replace/time the VE pump for the past few years. I had also thought I would make up tool kits as well... If enough first genners were interested I could do it in the spring...
I would have to first see what price I could get the tools for... Retail they are a bit expensive but not too bad... If I ordered enough at one time I could get the price way down on the tools... I would also have to hire a video camera man to get it to turn out good.
I personally never go on any long road trips without my pump tools and a spare pump... If you break down far far from home. The shops will really stick it to you when they replace your pump... One of the members told me that a cummins dealer hit him for 2400. 00 when his pump quit out on the road...
So speak up everyone that is interested... And I will look into the matter further... .
