I noticed that after I got the injection pump rebuilt that the boost went up about 4 pounds. While inside we found one of the springs broken, one of two I think. Don't know exactly what that spring does. Also noticed no internal wear at 590k (I use fuel additive every tank winter and summer)

That's great for the mileage and years. I assume you use the truck to tow/ haul? I have noticed that is good for fuel system longevity- keep it warm and lubed (NOT a WORD, Pete). If you dont mind telling us, what additive do you use? You could get some advertising money if you play it right ;).

Where was the broken spring?

Fuel additive

Started with Lucas and used that for two years. Noticed slight improvement in miliage and noticably less smoke especially on take off, all good. Did not like the $30/gal it has gone up to. With much research on here decided to use Soy cooking oil at the same ratio (20/oz. to 40 gal. at a cost of now $7/gal. ) In the winter I use Howes (which says it has lubricity additive) due to gelling. The Soy does not reduce smoking nor does Howes that I can notice. Last 300k have used Soy in summer and Howes in freezing part of winter. About the spring that was broke I will have to look that up in the am and will let you know. Lesson here was even with no internal wear a spring still broke from fatigue... ... . :)

Yes. Springs do that. It's normal. I replace all springs when I take a pump down to install seals. The springs have to come out anyhow, so... ... ... ... ... ...
