Also posted on "VE pump leak " I did a search but couldn't find a reference for rear pump leaks. I read "VE pump leak" thread and decided to take a look at the pump on my RV and sure enough it has a leak at the rear of the pump. it seems to come down between the mounting bracket and the rear plate of the pump, hard to ID source, but when the engine is running, it drips off the bottom of the bracket. What seals or gaskets are in the rear of the pump? I have read the other posts and it sounds like the pump should come off but is there a another option for the rear leaks? (I'm Irish so maybe some luck today) Thanks any replies.

If it's coming from the rear of the pump, it's most likely the o-ring that seals off the cover plate on the KSB piston. I've been down this road before. ;) If that is the problem, then the pump has to be removed to fix it. Here's a picture of the backside of the pump showing the plate with two screws near the bottom / middle of the pump.

I wasn't too clear on "rear". The fuel seems to be comming from the area where the injector lines are connected and running down between the bracket and the rear facing part (toward the rear wheels) of the pump. The injector lines seem dry and I thought the lines might mount to a cover or plate that forms the rear of the pump. Black in your picture. Whish I had a camera, hope this makes sense. Thanks

The fuel lines mount to the distribution head which is mounted to the body of the pump. There are a couple things n the back of the pump that can leak. Fuel shut off solenoid, full power screw, fuel return line. Unless you can get some of the linkage and things out of the way it is really tough to tell where th eleak is coming from. The three I mentioned can be fixed without pump removal. Another possibility is the pump top seal is bad.

Before you pull the pump you might want to clean things up good with carb cleaner and pull the linkage off the back of the pump and see if you can trace the leak.

Delivery valve gasket perhaps. The dv is what the fuel lines are attatched to. They have a copper washer that seats against the pump head and dv tube.

I have seen them leak. You will not have to pull the pump to do it.

Good luck.

Thanks folks, now I have a good idea of what to look for. The way the engine is squeezed into the vericle should make it interesting. "First remove the left front wheel... .

Was going to motorhome down to Alabama for some warmth but guess I'll make it a car trip and start the leak hunt later on.

If I need to remove the pump I'll review what all else should be done while it's out with the experts. Thanks again

I vote for the injection lines themselves leaking. They might not be threaded onto the rear of the pump correctly. Might not be tight.

Had to look again. One advantage (?) of the motorhome is I can remove the "dog house" cover and lay right on the engine. Still can't locate exact source but it sure seems to come from between the mounting bracket surface and the rear face of the pump (distribution head?). Can the plunger tube (I think that is what it is called) leak there? ( On edit it looks like I would be able to see if this location had a leak) Maybe a fine spray from some place, but now I wander. Anyway when I get back I'll go after it. Thanks again for the info.
