I guess my settings killed my pump today. :{ It is leaking between the pump body and the injection head I guess it is called. It is the block that all the injector lines screw into. It is dry at the lines but leaking where the block bolts on. Can I repair this at home or does it need to go to a shop? Does anyone have a file of the breakdown of the pump? Thanks for any help you can give. :D

broken pump

found the same problem on my pump today. I have talked to local diesel shop and a few airea shops, all have sed that it is time fore a rebuild. I was told that the only way to get to that seal is to remove and disasembel the pump. the only good new is we have an excuse to upgrade.

Well I jumped in and replaced the oring on the head, not a easy task but not bad if you don't let parts start falling out. I am going to take it over to Pensacola and have it flow tested to check it out before it goes back in storage, if it is bad I am going to have it rebuilt or order a high performance pump. For now I have my spare pump on it and it is running again, I was tempted to leave it bone stock with all the seals in place but, naa! couldn't do that. :-laf

replacing o ring

was the pump left on the truck? will the cast haed come of without dissasembeling entire thing? was o ring ordered from bosh or diesel shop? way to go on the self fix still debating what i am going to do.

You cant remove the head without removing ithe pump from the truck. And then, you have to have 15 tiny fingers to hold it all together and keep the springs and rollers from falling out. I found that if you keep it all at about a 45deg angle, it all stays together pretty well.

That post was great!!!!! I just learned more in the last 30 minutes about the VE's construction and assy than I have up to this point. Not quite as intimidated as before about everything falling out of the "Mystery Box".

I'm going to try to find a throwaway pump for practice as I would like to do rebuilds on both trucks.

BTW. Do all the seals, O-rings, Drive dampers, washers, ect come with a seal kit or is there another rebuild kit with more parts?

Every seal and copper/aluminum washer is in there. When you go through a pump, getcha the plunger return springs, throttle shaft/bushing, and gov spring.

Similarities/Differences inject. pump?

How similar or different are the 4bt, 6bt pumps. I would like to archive as many photographs/directions/instructions before I take my pump to pieces :-laf Thanks in advance for more resources, Patrick. :D

The internals are almost identical. I found the rattle in my pump that i have been trying to locate for three years. The spring between the main shaft and wobble plate was totally missing? Guess it was apart before. Anyone have a junk pump that they would sell or spare parts lying around I really need that spring.
