For those who may be dreading rebuilding a VE44 pump, I just got mine back from an authorized Bosch rebuilder this afternoon. Labor was $275, and parts were $415. 04, total of $690. 04. Not too bad, I was expecting far worse.

Gimme a break! I am old and it is hot! Besides, I bought a second gen dually diesel from another TDR member, got to go to Detroit and pick it up in a few days. It already runs! About 15-1600 miles from here, but I am going to Florida on the way home so should give it a good tryout. .

Um, yer just a little turned around- FLorida isnt anywhere along way home from Detroit to TX. :-laf

PS- I want a report on the performance, too.

Don, Now you can make your new 2nd gen into a toad-pusher, and with the right hitch and linkage you could use either engine or both to move your motorhome. Fly up those hills. Combination... .

Well, maybe not.

I guess I had not realized just how undependable these Cummins really are! Thanks a lot for shattering my confidence in them! :{

Not at all. . a twin engine Cummins powered rig is my dream. Dependable and power to spare.

I do think the linkage will take some work.

Pump Guru, information needed.

Sitting around reading - too much it seems. My 5. 9 came out as a 180ph, and from the seller I was told that "a Cummins mechanic turned it up to 210hp, as far as the little Allison 545 would allow" Now I got to thinking, when the Bosch people adjusted the screw, just what HP did they adjust it to? They never asked me.

That is what I was wondering, which book. Are the 180 pumps different from the 160 ones or the 200 ones, I thought they were all alike? Does the pump data plate tell him that?

Yes it does. There is a plate on the pump with the numbers on it, similar to the data plate on the engine. Then he looks it up in the book by the numbers on it and sets RPMs, fuel rate, etc.

Jeezz! Do I have to do all the bright ideas around here? Remote control! :--)

Don, hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Don, hope you don't mind me tagging onto this thread.

Is it correct to say that the pumps are identicle, but the settings are different, or are there built in differences in some of the internals?

Is the fuel the main setting or is there a number of things?

Can the actual HP be determined "on the bench" or is it just a range?

Too hot to be outside so just thinking.

Thanks any info

Don, the Allison specs for 545 show 235 hp max. I doubt I'll exceed that, but all these pump variables are interesting.

Does your new truck mean your moving to a trailer for travel?

I have to head out to South Oklahoma soon, on the never ending test drive, hope there is shade enough. Enjoy your trip.

Just trying to be more versatile, I am driving from Detroit straight to Florida to pick up a BIG truck camper for it, then back home.
