Socialism in a nutshell

Look what I found on the side of the road!!

How well do you maintain the cosmetic look of your vehicle ?. Did the dealer tell you they applied a coating and you do not have to wax for 5 years ?. If so they are full of it.
Will this be what your vehicle will look like in 5-10 years

Here is something to keep in mind

This David Ghodoussi is one of the guy's that helped develop the modern paint when the EPA mandated water based paints and is the owner of Optimum products. Now, Optimum developed and patented a brand known as "Car Wax" which has UVA and UVB inhibitors and the only patented wax that has those. So I have read UVB causes more damage than A. So there's a little info for those that did not know, also the base coat you would think is shiny but no, it is more of a mat finish.

If I every buy a new vehicle it will get ceramic coating right away, I feel the about the best protection you can get.

Be sure to do your research as like everything there are downfalls. Those are why I continue to use Collinites wax, I just do not need the grief.

I know a lot of people who use Ceramic coating and other then improper prep or application all the people I know love it.....

My cucaracha that I used for daily to work I dont wax, looks much like your photo. My 2015, 2001 and Cadillac I keep waxed and they all look new. 2001 has a few chipped spots but not as much as you would expect for an 01 and definitely no UV damage. I dont really have a preferred wax and have used several over the years, brand does not seem to have made a difference as far as my vehicles are concerned. Thats a few years in Canada and 17 years of constant New Mexico Heat/sun.

David at least you are using the correct and best wax period!;) Considering it's a Ford product, good luck trying to shine that won't be easy.

There is a guy on a detailing forum that has been doing tests of different products for a very long time and was asked this question
Re: Sealant comparison
Rippy, have you noticed any of the longer lasting products that seem to do well or poorly with water spots and etching? I've had too many etching problems with coatings so I'm looking to switch to one of the more durable sealants.

I haven't really noticed any big differences in spotting or etching with sealants. I believe that replacing a sealant as needed will help with spotting on the paint. Really haven't tracked this closely, but that seems to be the case. I have the same issue with coatings, especially on horizontal panels: spotting and etching that have to be removed with polish, which also removes the coating.

I use to have that same problem using sealants as they do not seem to protect very well with spotting and bug guts. Never personally used a coating so I can only go by what I read.

A good friend of mind passed away who had a classic car... I inherited all his Meguires products. Long ago, I used to hand wax all vehicles every 3 months, now its twice a year. The 5500 takes 4 hours to wax/detail and an hour to wash, including entire undercarriage and engine bay.

Cheers, Ron
