I went to take a peek at the 03's today and, as usual, I got some young kid salesman, who didn't know his head from his anus. Why do they let people sell $40K vehicles without knowing anything about them? We were looking at a 2500 w/the auto, because that's all they had, and this kid was dead set that it was rated at 265 hp. And to make matters worse, he's trying to tell me that the H. O. has 335 hp. I didn't feel like trying to convince him otherwise, so I just let it go. :-{} I knew better from reading about the new motors in here and elsewhere; however, for some unexpecting customer, they're more likely to go with what the salesman tells them. This is not the first time I have experienced this level of incompetence and I'm sure it will not be the last. I just wish the dealerships would take the time to educate their people before turning them on the public.

On a side note, I hate that when ever you get into a vehicle to do a test drive, the fuel gauge always shows empty. The 2500 I was looking at had the fuel light on and the needle burried. I told the kid he should get some fuel in the truck real soon and he just acted surprised. At that point I figured forget the test drive, just get me out of here.

I agree, but how 'bout this for a contrast?

Brand new 350Z sitting on the corner of the lot at a small town dealership. I pulled in and a young kid comes out. He knew why I stopped. I have only seen pics of this Z, and haven't cared enough to research specs, etc. This is one fabulous looking car that will be selling for $5K ++ over MSRP (~$30K) for a very long time. This guy new absolutely every performance/option/color detail, and only answered my questions without pushing anything else on me. He had really done his homework, but since this dealer is only allotted 3 of these in the next year, he won't get much practice.

I'd pay $35 K for this..... there's nothing that can touch it even with serious ADM.

I know just how you feel NoCalH. O. PO.

My first visit to look at the new '03 HD's

I was trying to avoid the salesmen as if they

were mosquitos. One finally started talking to

me, asking questions. He didn't know that the

truck I was looking at (Cummins w/5 speed manual)

was 250HP. He thought that since it was a stick

it was an HO. I mentioned the axles were made

by American Axle now, not Dana, and that AA is

the same axle manufacturer for the new GM trucks.

He looked at me funny but didn't comment. Then

he said the HO will not be available with an auto

transmission. I mentioned that it will be by the end of the summer, the 48RE. He said, "Oh yeah, I heard

about that and it's a copy of the Allison".

Whatever.

Worse yet, a friend of mine with too much $$$

not enough sense :D has owned a 2000 Dodge Ram

Cummins 3500 4x4 auto, then went to a Ford F350

DRW crew cab 4x4, then a Chevy 3500 crew cab

with the 496 & Allison, then a Chevy 3500 with

Duramax & Allison.

He was very determined that his next truck was

going to be a 2003 Dodge 3500 Cummins HO when

the auto becomes an option.

Well I found out the other day that he tried to

order one but became so upset with the salesman,

ordering process or something, that he ended up

getting another Chevy 3500 crew cab 4x4 DMax/

Allison. The new ones with the freaky looking

Avalanche style grille!

Not me.

I'd have to say that most salespeople I've ever talked to when going to look at vehicles seem clueless. When I was shopping for my 02 I was asking when they were going to start getting in the 03's and the guy had no clue that the body was changing on the 2500/3500's. Went out last week to try and find a 6 speed to test drive at a few dealers here in Vegas but the three I visited only had autos. Another funny thing is that we had to actually ask if they had any 03's come in since two of the dealers were hiding them in the back. They said they only show them to people that know about them since they are trying to get rid of a bunch of 02's that are taking up space on the lot.
