vehicle tracking system

I'm wondering if any of you members have any experience in vehicle tracking systems. I have a landscape/ construction business, and am interested in tracking my small fleet of vehicles. It would be nice to have some sort of a transmitter in say 4 trucks and be able to monitor them via my PC.

I used to work for a private (small) ambulance company. We had 16 vehicles back then...



Every truck had a neat little terminal that connected to the 2-way radio and gave out Lat/Lon coordinates from an onboard GPS receiver back to the dispatch office. You could even chat with the dispatcher through the terminal...



A major part of the system pooped the bed... the company that sold the whole setup went belly up... and then the whole system was basically useless. The system was operational about 8 years ago... so who knows if the company that went belly up was bought out or what.



My only advice is to be careful what you buy and who you're buying it from. My old boss has a pile of manure that he paid a lot of money for... . it's too bad because the system worked reasonably well for the most part.



I'm sure systems like this have come a long way since then... . and that the price has been greatly reduced as well... .
