reese 15k problems

Need any towing around Houston??

A freind and I are sitting here on night shift wondering what our trucks weigh. I have a 2001 24v 2500 and him a 2000 24v 3500. Both are stock Quad Cab SLT's, camper package [Leaf springs and sway bars] A/C, no fuel tank upgrades and we are not in the truck. Searching the owners manual and shop manuals, nothing is listed. If anyone has this info, +/- ?00 pounds, it would be appreciated.

Thanks from the new guy!!

4x4 or 4x2? 4x4 weighs about 400# more. Most 4x4 2500's come in close to 7000# empty and the 3500 is 400# to 500# more than that. These are just round numbers, not exact weight. I have always weighed mine loaded with trailer or camper so I can't give you exact weight either. This has been discussed a lot in old posts. They all seem to weigh close to what I quoted above.

7K

Mine weighed in at 7,300 with a full tank of fuel, me, tools, and some firewood. I figure right around 7,000 without me and an empty bed (but full tank).

On the title issued to the dealer right from the factory it listed shipping weight 7088 lbs, that's with 2 gls of fuel. I believe I read somewhere diesel fuel weighs 8 lbs per gl. So with a 35 gl full tank that puts it at 7352.

I went down to the truck stop where the scales are and they have separators where you can find out what each axle is.

mine was 4400 front

3240 rear

7640 total

I have a leer shell and aT tires and I have a High-lift jack in the back.

When my '01 CC 2500 ETHDEE 4 X4 was very new with no mods, I took it to an Oregon DOT scales and with me, (180 pounds), wife (125 pounds) and two 8 pound pouches, we went 7300#

Are you my long lost relative?

Well gents I thank you all. Myself, I have a new one sitting in the driveway and I'm starting the lawn chair thinking process on how I'm going to go with this one.

I have the 4x2 and it appears that I maybe around the 6700 lb. range. My friend has the 4x4 and appears to be around the 7100 lb. range. This is a good start, and of course we'll be adding-on.

thanks again,

I'll be back

Hey Merryman,

You might be! I was originally from PA ,more than a few moons ago! Born in Uniontown. How about you?

My 2500 4X2 Quad with short bed, full tank and tool box in the bed tipped the scales at

6860 without me

7040 with me

9160 with me and empty flatbed

Oh you guys got me real worried now I guess I have been overloading my truck and have too big a slide-in camper planned. Only weighed mine at the dump, they weigh you going in and coming out. their scale said I weighed 6400 with me in it. Could this be right for a 96 4x2 long bed ext cab auto camper package? My title says 5600 which I always knew was way low.

I guess I need to find a certified scale when I am unloaded which is rare when I am on the road.

Eric, That's probably about right. Remember, I said I have a tool box in the bed that's a couple of hundred pounds. Then the HO engine is a couple of hundred :D . Just kidding. Mine was certified scales at the farmers coop.

Well gents, will be filling my rig up this week and will pull into the truck scales and check it out. I'll post the results.

Thanks Vaughn, if ever down my way, I-5 and Hwy-12, let me know and I'll meet you at the Flag City Union-76 Truck stop. Always nice to meet another Merryman.

Greetings, I'm also a new member.

My 2001. 5 2500 QC LB (about the same setup as DMerryman) hit the scales at 6940 with me in it. This doesn't really leave much cargo capacity before you hit the GVWR!! Is it common to tow in excess of the GVWR? I have a 3 horse featherlite GN that will come in close to 8000 lbs loaded, and I've had a few concerns about this, especially in the mountains. In my estimation, 8000 lbs is not a really heavy load and should be a reasonable tow with a 3/4 ton pickup, correct??

Thanks, JRG
