My truck does not seem to have a vent only option. Maybe I am just too dumb to figure it out but I either can have it off or the ac is on. I would like just to vent in outside air but no matter which way I turn the selector the ac comes on.
On my 98, the AC is on (depending on the temperature setting) when the switch is turned to show air coming out both high and low vents. If you turn it to have air come out high vents only, the AC is off - vent only.
Thanks. I was putting it on high/low thinking that was high/low vent and that the ac only was supposed to come in in the ac position. Now I can have at least a high vent. I never really checked it because I always had it on high/low or ac.
while disabling the AC has its good sides, there are positives to allowing it to work as designed.
1-Defrost in the summer works better with the AC on, it lowers the humidity inside the truck to lower the fog conditions.
2-By having the AC come on during defrost, the AC gets a chance to cycle, moving oil through the system, and keeps the seal behind the clutch wet (to prevent leaks when it gets older).
I recall reading a study where the AC cost about 10% loss in MPG, BUT rolling down the windows changes your aerodynamics lowering your MPH around 10%. Plus all that dirt gets into your truck
