Bought a new camera phone. First question I asked "Can I download pictures DIRECTLY to my PC?", answer: "yes, but you have to buy the USB cable and data kit".

So I buy the kit. The index of the manual says see page 49 for instructions on downloading to computer. Page 49 says nothing about the process.

SO I email Motorola and get this response:

"Thank you for contacting Motorola.

Regarding your inquiry, the media transfer of the Motorola phones through a USB cable is a carrier dependent feature. Unfortunately for the Verizon V325 phone, this option has been disabled as a request of the Service Provider. "

So POS Verizon requested that Motorola disable the download function so that Verizon customers have to pay 25c per picture to send from the phone.

Complaints to Verizon go unanswered. Next step is to file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General accusing Verizon of fraud by telling me to buy the data kit and then disabling the feature.

Yup, Cingular is about the only one that doesnt screw ya like that.

The others want you to dl and ul through their air time / media minute$.

You can see if http://www.datapilot.com/ has a cable and software to work with your phone. Good stuff, used it when I couldn't get a cable or software for the phones in my family as an option from the provider.

Thats why I didnt buy a camera phone. One way or another, they will get x-tra $$ out of your wallet. Good luck with the complaints.

I can't have one with the places I go and visit. . Nokia is one of the few, if maybe only now that has something of a good phone with no camera. But I still need to back up my phone book, and it's easier to do it all the phonebook wrok on the PC then upload it to the phone, which is what I use the data pilot cable and software for

Try Bitpim software Its free and works better then the cell phone companies software. I used it to load the isb. mp3 file onto my phone for a ring tone :)

I bet the upload/download feature is still turned on within the phone, just the software don't have the option (as long as your not talking about the Bluetooth file sharing feature, that was broke by removing a piece of the software from the phone)

You need to get bitpim like towpro says. I also used it to set a Cummins ringtone on my phone. You can manipulate or upload/download things in your phone's file system using Bitpim. Your pictures are in there and are free for the taking. Bitpim is free - and it sounds like you may already have the cable you need.

Also, there may be a "secret menu" on your phone that you can access to turn certain disabled features back on. On my LG it is menu option 0, and then all 0s for the password.

BitPim works! But the stupid cartoon characters in the phone are erase protected :( Cant erase them.

I can get pics out of the phone now. Even though I bought the data kit, mobil phone tools wasnt on the disk, still looking for it. The instructions in post #7 are very clear, just need the software.

Thanks all!

Update: Got a call from the Office of the President from Verizon. Spoke to a nice lady who understood I was ready to file a detailed and documented complaint. Since Verizon already has a class action suit in CA filed, because Verizon diasabled certain features and tried to resell them to customers (sound familiar?). She said there was no charge to send pix from the phone. I pointed out an earlier response from customer service that said it cost 25c.

I asked for her response in writing. We'll see if I get it. But I have her direct line.

i guess i got lucky with rogers wireless up here in canada... my motorola v720 came with the data cable that works on all/most current motorola phones. my phone reads like a usb thumb drive when accessing it... i need to get the latest version of motorola mobile phone tools to get deeper into it, and the other phones my family has [and if i would have known earlier, i could have cracked my phone myself for free instead of paying someone to unlock it [99% of all cell phones in canada are locked to the provider, i don't know if that is how it is in the usa]
