I used to post on here a lot till I sold my 97 (that I drag raced). Alas, I really miss the rough riding, noisy ol girl, but I digress.....
My 3500, 05 was a little soft in the front end on bumps. I really hated bottoming out the frontend going over a speed bump AT 5 MPH!!
Thanks to you guys and all your posting about the different suspension systems out there, I was able to gleen the information I needed to make my decision on what to buy. .
I purchesed the 2. 25" system from Sean at Lorenz with the mini spring packs.
I was also looking at the Kore system but chose to go with the Lorenz because of the shock towers (with the 2. 25" system) and the ability to re-build my own shocks. (I just wasn't comfortable with utilizing the stock towers and non-rebuildable shocks from the comparable Kore kit) Also, I thought it was importine of being able to talk with the owner/builder/salesman and not with just a salesman at a different company.
Please, no offense meant, just my preference. .
Instalation was straight forward and was finished in 6 hours. (the temp. in my garage at the time was only 19 degrees so I moved like the proverbial molasses... ) Only thing missing was the mounting directions for the front straps but Sean quickly (and I mean quickly) took care of that issue and had them to me in less than an hour. . After a quick charge of 140 PSI, dry, filtered air (I'm also a scuba diver so that part was easy) it was time for a test run. . (don't worry, I re-charged with Nitrogen the next day. )
My first impressions while driving around town (under 35 MPH. ) was a little disconcerning. It was a little harsher ride than I'd thought it would be but I forgot ALL about that when I hit the first set of R/R tracks. WOW!! Oo. Instead of slowing down to 5 MPH to keep from possibly bottoming out the ft. axle, I hit them at about 25 MPH. OMG:--) THE R/R TRACKS DISSAPEARED!!!!They simply ceased to exist! My first 5 minutes of the ride had me wondering if I'd just spent a bunch of money for a 2. 5" lift kit. The next ten minutes had me grinning from ear to ear and damn lucky that I didn't get a ticket for reckless opps...
The "harsh" ride I first encountered was really just the suspension doing what it's suppose to do. I love it!!Oo. I've even hit R/R tracks way faster than prudent, and they're no longer an issue.
Now the big test, hooking up the airboat and towing down the highway. The best way to describe that test was, awsome. :-laf No more bouncing, slapping or the occasional bottoming out... I'm in love with my truck again. .
The mini spring packs even worked out better than I had hoped and the rear now stays where it belongs, tracking behind the front wheels and not trying dance, skip, bounce (take your pick) all around. .
Since my truck is also a rescue vehicle towing a rescue airboat, (about 3500# and the aerodynamics of billboard) or hauling my big a** and rescue/dive equipment to the fire station or rescue scene, I"ve had the oppertunity to put the suspension through some interesting paces. . Again, I love it!! Oo. High speed handling is no problem (and yes, I realize this truck is NOT a sports car, nor do I drive it like one) But damn, it's a blast to drive now!!!!!!!! And I've got to admit, the added 2. 5" of front lift and 1/2" of rear lift makes the truck look meaner than a recently violated primate. .
I've had to call Sean a few time to ask questions and he's always taken the time to answer in full detail and to make sure I understand everything before he hangs up. In my book, THAT'S GREAT SERVICE.
So in closing, I just want to say thanks to Sean and his crew for a great product and fantastic service.
