All previous personal opinions concerning the maxipad diesel(?) are confirmed.

Fracturing the rod ends to separate the cap from the main rod body? Any student of metalurgy knows that this results in stress lines in the rod length, causing metal separation.

Induction hardening the bores? Same student, same results. The casting surrounding the bores is stressed by the uneven heating and cooling of the bores, resulting in block twist and crank/cam bore misalignment.

It is obvious that the proccesses involved in the manufacture of the maxipad are inclined toward the elimination of cost, and not the enhancement of life and performance.
