6.7l v-8 Beware of the dealer

Check out Clessie Cummins' intriguing design of a barrel engine: 3 cylinder, 6 piston off a Z-shaped crankshaft. Gas powered, 125 bhp, 300 cu in. The prototype successfully ran shortly before he died in 1968. It was patented in 1970 and remains a curiosity.

I graduated from a machinist apprenticeship in the mid 70's and had time working on the Navy's diesel propulsion plants but never heard of the Deltic until now. Very interesting concept and design.

The Junkers aircraft diesels were pretty amazing. They were very successful and to date the most prolific use of diesel engines in airplanes. In the 1930s the Jumo 205A for example was 1015 cid and produced 867hp, giving it more power per cubic inch than say the Allison V1710.

Man, that is freaking AWESOME! I wish someone would "re-invent" and produce that thing! Could you imagine the speed and power you could get out of it? I bet the exhaust sound is interesting too! A pickup sure would look cool with three stacks coming through the bed, all from a separate "bank" of cylinders!
