Very odd - odometer stopped....

So while driving, the odometer stopped. About 40 miles later it started back up. Speedo worked perfectly. Trip odometer also stopped.



What the heck???

Sounds like the sending unit. Does the Speedometer flutter, especially after hitting a bump? GregH

Time to send the dash unit somewhere and have it rebuilt.

The little blue gears in the speedo head that drive the trip meter & odometer are cracking/stripping out. These can be bought on the internet.

No. Went for another drive last night and half way through that drive it kicked out again. Was about 15 miles after I reset it that it stopped again.

OK. Will have to take a look. Do you know of the company/exact name for the part?



Also is this just a bunch of little gears or do I need to be getting an entire little motor?

If your speedometer continues to function, when the odometer/trip meter dies, then the gears are the fix. If all three die then it is something else such as the VSS or wiring or the drive motor in the gauge cluster that has failed.

ahhh haaaa!!! glad this came up one more thing for me to fix LOL... . odometer just stopped and i had put a new VSS on the transmission it worked for about a year then stopped, could it bee a gear or wiring with how it just up and quit.

I'm sure all of us will end up with a cracked gear at sometime, they just seem to be a weak link... .

hmmm sounds like i need to just leave the dash alone. Anyone know if the gear is available and how hard is it to fix...
