Hi. I've been a member now for almost a month and for the past year I frequented these boards and learned alot in the process. Thanks! My transmission, though, is really beginning to give me grief. I have posted this originaly on DTT board but i would also like to share it here too. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

I'm on my second transmission. 6 Months ago the first died when I asked my dealer to put Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF into the transmission. Apparently the dealer was unaware of the factory's warning on this because he was more than eager to try it. When all was said and finished with a handshake, I made it a few miles down the road before the transmission fried from “excessive slippage”... so they said.

I had the second transmission installed at a different dealer. This transmission stinks. The first transmission felt far more crisp and on a rainy day i could spin the tires which was nice. But the second transmission is VERY sluggish. Even more sickening is around 38mph it will upshift even at 3/4 throttle and lose all of its power up to 55 mph... as if there's a 20mph dead zone. Its embarrassing, where last month I towed a small aluminum boat that weighs less than 2k and it dogged it. It’s a real disappointment when i know i have 4. 10's in the rear! IT feels as though the transmission is not letting the power reach the wheels and that upshift at 38mph makes the truck feel as though its gonna fall on its face... especially when it happens on slight to moderate hills like an onramp. The torque converter was thought to be the culprit and was replaced under the factory warranty 2 days ago. I truly thought that was the problem but to my amazement it didnt make any sort of difference and all the same symptoms are still there. I’m wondering if the Valvebody is bad as well. Or even if the 98 transmission has the same gearing as this 2000 transmission that I have. The dealer is starting to become defensive and says thats life. But I spent 60k miles with the first transmission and know this isnt life, this is hell!

So any feedback will greatly be appreciated. I am very eager to have the DTT torque converter and valvebody installed this fall before I begin my snowplowing this winter (which will be a lot of fun with those goods installed... I keep hearing great things about them). I will not mind the extra plowing to pay for them so long as its plowing driveways with them installed! Thanks in advance and for being a great resource.
