'Vette owners annoy me

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

My RAM died (sort of)!!

Duramax head failure @ 500 miles

Today I had a 'Vette roll by me like a bat out of hell and both the driver and passenger waved at me like they wanted to play. They slowed down and I pulled up beside them at about 50 mph. Got a little ahead of them and short shifted into 6th. Hehe you guessed it, a nice smokey 125db straight pipe seranade. They had the Targa top off also. Needless to say they changed lanes and would not come anywhere near the back of my truck after that.

Its said that the difference between a porcupine and a Vette is that the porcupine has the pricks on the outside.

At least the word must be getting out that a Dodge Truck with Cummins power is a very quick truck for its weight and only 6 cylinders.

On the other hand, He must not have much confidence in his car to pick a race with a full size pickup truck that out weighs his car by about 4,000 lbs. Typical General Mistake owner.

"Typical General Mistake owner. "

HEY! *I* own a '98 Camaro SS and a restored '70 Caddy convertible - so be NICE now - not ALL of us are so GM stupid as to think that just because aluminum works (after a fashion... ) in our GAS engines, it will be just peachy in a DIESEL too... #ad

Do it to a Mustang owner and they get really bent outa shape.

Mustangs and third gen. Camaros. The kids around here have a bunch of them, and most of em have respect for the "big black truck". I know they call it that because I have been asked if I own it, and I have heard stories of some of the less hp inclined guys asking what I have under the hood.

Nothing so far... . hehehehe

I feel that way about Hardley Daviesons and
their owners. But I usually keep that
opinion to myself.

Tell ya what, if you can pass my Vette I'll
give it to ya.

Anyone see the Lingenfelter (sp?) modified Vette on one of the TNN car shows a couple of weekends ago? Take a new stock Vette and do $50k in engine mods and it will clock at 223 mph (top end)! The cool thing is that it looks totally stock on the outside.

Man,i've heard of toys but a vette and a cummins. How nice,I am too busy admiring the vettes to think about trying to get ahead of one.

I have an '86 Corvette, and most Vette owners annoy the hell out of me too. 99% of them are total posers. They have this psychological problem that makes them think that their car is superior to any other on the road, and they feel the need to tell everybody that whenever possible.

I went to an autocross this past Saturday (which is what my '86 is for), put on by a local Corvette club. I nearly left before even competing because the whole group reeked of poser-ism. I was mentioning to them that there was an event on Sunday at the same location, being put on by a local autox region, and several of them flat refused to attend because they don't like Miatas (they're faster autox cars in some cases). I mean COME ON folks, the Miata is in a totally different class.

I hate snobs.

But as far as cars trying to pick fights on the freeway, out here it's usually Mustangs and Ricers.

The cure for poserism is a good butt whoopin, tell them to put their money on the table. The only problem is when they lose they try to weasel their way out of it with some lame excuse.....

My dad is deep into the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) and has 6 Vettes

65 Coupe 327/365hp, air, 4spd. (1 of 188)
66 Coupe 427/390hp, 4spd
66 Coupe 427/425hp, 4spd, "Tanker"
67 Coupe 427/435 Tripower, 4 spd, 16,000 miles
72 Coupe LT-1, 4spd
95 ZR-1, 6spd, 2500 miles

And he has a 98 24v.

Not much of a prick to me.

Well, I'll jump into this too... . as a driving instructor for 15 years, Ive seen them come and seen them go. I hate to admit it, but I stereotype Corvette people in with Porsche Turbo people... their boasts of horsepower are directly, and inversely proporsional to the size of their... . well, you know! I have had the chance to drive all sorts of Corvettes, Mustangs, Vipers, etc. . in various stages of trim (Saleen, Lingenfelter, Calloway, etc) and even met the Earnhardt boys at Sebring during their first test in the Corvette! I like the C5; it's no Porsche or Ferrari, but is a nice car. As for my experience with the people... a few are real 'car guys', like Mr. Clark's dad... but most are on an ego trip.

JC,you don't think he would loan me the 67?

I used be in the SCCA (when I had a car to race in) and did a lot of SOLOII Autocross myself. The Vette guys would NEVER come out and play... the Viper guys would, but never could work out a schedule.

I never drove what anyone would consider to be a "performance car", but always had an absolute blast.

I don't know how many Porsche, BMW, Audi, and other performance car owners we invited to come race with us, and none of them ever did. The odd soul from a local college occaisionally came out, but for the most part, they just would come watch for a bit, and when invited to sign up and compete, they'd mumble something about "might break it" and that was that.

One time a local college kid with an early 80's Porsche came out and did compete. I ended up beating him in my Horizon. Mostly, he just needed some practice at learing to shift, learning his car... but he never came back.

I even did one season in a 4 Door Dodge Diplomat, an ex-cop special with the police suspension. Not much for acceleration, but it handled incredibly well for a big sedan.

I like that term "posers" LOL! I figure they're the guys who would sell their car if it ever got beat. Hey, I'm realistic, I know a Vette would spank my Cummins thouroughly but if one comes playing around me, you bet I'll hammer down and play. It's all fun, it's just more fun to win #ad
