Would this hurt my Westach sending unit??

Has anyone heard anymore rumors or propaganda about engine upgrades or changes in 05? I am especially interested in the possibility of a variable geometry turbo. Seem like that might be the answer to having more power and a little better egt's right from the factory.

"Hope you don't get it. It is a PITA. "

Is that from experience dealing with the ferds or waht do you base this on, I'm curious, I know zilcho about those critters.

I highly doubt that there will be any engine changes for the first 05s. Cummins does engine changes generally at mid year. I am not too eager about VGT either.

So what don't you like about VGT? Personally, I think the stock VGT if/when they put them on the RAM's, will be a little small for those of us that want to BOMB. However, I'm still all for it, because the aftermarket potential of a turbo that spools quicker than a HY35 with more top end than a B1 just makes me all giddy inside. I'd much prefer this to the headaches and plumbing associated with running twins.

I won't hazzard a guess as to when VGT will hit the market in these trucks, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was soon. My thought is that they would have liked to include them when the EPA requirements forced the 600 to be produced. However they weren't quite ready yet, most likely due to programming more than hardware, being that the hardware in a larger form has been used in the trucking industry for a years now... and has proven to be quite reliable.

I have heard nothing but like most people here I also love to speculate.

My thoughts;

Cummins allready have the VGT on other applications therefore the problem may be with Dodge.

Since the VGT also acts like a mild exhaust brake it stands to reason that untill Dodge puts in a auto that is APPROVED for one ... ... ... ... how can they offer one without the other????

My prediction is it will come with a VGT soon after the auto can handle it.

Someone on this board said they went to a truck show and I believe they said ATS? had a common rail cummins with a VGT all set up for the engine and electronics.

there were some pictures somewhere on this forum, and it was a banks engine with the hx50v on it with controller and a slick looking exhaust manifold

Sooooooo, Do we have them?

I have to ask. Do the '05's have a VGT on them? My truck was built in Nov 04. Is there a way to check? If it did have a VGT, would it make a rattling sound under mid throttle acceleration, like a gas pinging sound?

Nope, no VGT on 05's. And no, the turbo wouldn't make that sound.

i posted awhile back that someone saw a new dodge covered by a black bra and said it had the loudest turbo whistle he had ever heard louder than 6L . ;0 he said he was in cali and the truck had michigan plates he said they were trying to keep him from getting a good look at it. he also said that there was a lcd screen in the center of the dash. he said it had new rear tailights that stuck out like a chevy. sound like a variable turbo to me
