damper

I JUST USED A CROWS FOOT . THERE ARE NOTCHES IN THE DAMPER JUST WEDGED IN SLOT AND FRAME TO LOOSE & TIGHTEN IT WORKS FOR ME:D

I have a 5 speed. I put it in 5th gear and put my 12 yr. old on the brake pedal. I dont think You can apply more torque than the engine puts out and will hurt anything...

Use 2 ratchets w/ appropriate socket size.

One ratchet is set to loosen the bolt on one side and the other is set to tighten the bolt to the opposite will keep the damper from moving. It works pretty good

damper block

Being of farm stock, I may not always do it right, but I can usually get it done.

In this instance, I wedged a long, heavy screwdriver in between one of the notches on the damper and a piece of 6x6 on the garage floor. I then proceeded to remove the bolts.

I reversed the process to re-install the bolts and damper.

Works for me! Oo.

You need a barring tool to hold the engine. That thing sure has come in handy many more times then I was expecting. But what the others are saying will work also and it's cheaper.

I used a similar method to Tim but I used a 2x2 board . You can cut it any length to reach the floor. Turn the crank to line up the groove on the opposite side to tighten the bolts . Torque is about 105 ft pounds. I f you have a timing mark that you have put on the crank it probably won't line up now. The bolt holes have a lot of slop in them.

damper

:p I just had mine off last week doing front crank seal..... I took a short breakover and hit it with a small sledgehammer, worked like a charm!;) :D :D

I just pulled mine off tonight to tab the dowel pin. I used a small 1/2" drive ratchet and turn it till the engine built up compression then the bolt broke free. Then went on to the next bolt.

Similar to the other methods mentioned, I use a 7. 5 inch long piece of cold rolled steel to wedge between the notch in the dampner and the steering cross member just below the dampner.

Solid connection - easy break free.

vibration damperthanks again

thanks again for all the advice.

the bolts were torqued very tight, I had to use a long braker bar on them.

its now back on and running.

happy phart.
