3500 LWB Dully with auto trans

throttle linkage

I have read many of the threads on this but am not quite sure if anyone has found the fix. I didnt go over 65 mph until this week once i had passed the 1k on the odometer and sure enough around 68 mph i got the vibration/ drone that many of us are talking about. I dont feel it in the steering wheel or pedals but can feel/hear it . More pronounced beetween 70 and 75. It is not horrendous but annoying and makes interior noisey. I would say a driveshaft problem. I am sure i know more about this than the dealer does or at least more than he is willing to admit to. Do you think i should just bring it to him and play dumb or should i share our wealth of knowledge with him?I would really like to get this taken care of without a yelling match with him. How many times must i bring it in for repairs until i need to contact dc?:(

Probably those AMM axles whining underneath it. I've heard some other guys talking about that. Try searching through the 3rd Gen forum for more info.

How many RPMs are you turning at 70-75? The reason I ask is that these engines have always had a problem (issue, maybe) with vibration and drone; lot of them from 2000-2200RPM. It is part of the nature of the beasts, I guess. I rode in my now-former boss's 03 a while back, and while it was quiet, there was a little something that was different, still unrefined, as it were. Reminded me of my nonIC 91 :D. I dotn get into the 3G forum much, (dialup WAAAYYY too slow) but if it is an axle problem, I'd definitely get it checked out. If I dropped $40K for a pickup, I'd want everything up to snuff. Does it just do it at hwy speeds, or is it load/RPM related? Load/ RPM, I'd suspect engine; speed related, I'd look to driveline or drivetrain.

My dealer told me about the problem, says it is only happening on Short bed single rear wheels 204. 5 and Dodge does not know what the problem is, and they may end up replacing two that they sold with new 2005's

I purchased a 2004. 5 2500 l/b, reg. cab, 48re w/3. 73 in June and love the awesome power and solid ride of my 1st diesel but I also have a drivetrain or exhaust drone between 1800-2300 rpm (65-80 mph). I have 4300 mi. on the truck and being a new diesel owner figured the noise might be normal until I read my 1st TDR issue (45) and on pgs. 48 and 105 had articles relating to the noise. Evidently Dodge recently changed rear end suppliers and they are aware of the noise complaints. Bye the way what an excellent magazine the

TD Register is and thanks for all the good reading on this website.
