I just came back from a long trip and found out some interesting things in reference to the vibration and drone problem that a lot of people seem to be having.

The drone and vibration begins around 64mph and maxed out at 67mph and then subsides around 69mph. It does not seem to be RPM related since I can rev the truck in neutral and they do not occur.

I could not notice them when the truck was cold but as it warmed up, they became very noticeable.

I at first did not notice the problems until I had my truck cap installed, i. e. more weight in the back. I also noticed that they were worse with a full tank of gas than on an 1/8th of a tank.

Hope this helps someone figure these problems out!

That sure sounds like a tire related issue. The only other place that might possibly be suspicious is the driveshafts, I'd look for a tiny amount of looseness (play) in both the u-joint bearing caps and at the slip yoke. The drive shafts are a long shot though, and I'd try rotating the tires and varying their pressure to see if it alters your symptoms. So's you know, tires can (and will!) develop different sounds as their tread wears; the older the tires, the louder they get. Hope this helps,

That's the 2100rpm drone. Mine is auto/4. 10 and does it at exaclty the same speed. What's happening is the normal engine pulses get transmitted through the driveline and amplify. You can feel it in 3rd at 2100rpm also but not nearly as bad.

Someone over on the oilburners site posted about a vibration at 2700rpm. Mine has it bad. It smooths out at 3000rpm. But to lock out O/D at 60mph feels like the torque converter is out of balance. Not the drone buzz but a deeper harsh vibration. I couldn't respond over there as I couldn't associate myself with such a site. :-laf :-laf :-laf
