Hi,
I am an orig owner of a 96 2500 FWD (+300K miles) and have encountered a significant vibration above 60 mph.
Local shop has re-balanced all tires - no improvement. Any suggestions? Center bearing assy? Rear
universal joints ok. Some play in front propeller shaft u-joint. Xfr case recently replaced.

Center support bearing is a strong possibility. Double-check the rear u-joints just to be sure you didn't miss something.

Look at tires and make sure there are not a lot of weights on one side of tire.
Was the shop the place you bought tires?
Also look at the tread on the tires to sse if you rolled or broke a belt (term ?). *Move the truck forward/backwards and look and feel tire. The shop should of seen bulge in tread but you never know
I had a belt brake on the way to the market to buy h2o melons . Loaded the melons checked the tiires found a bulge on the tread. Called my roving tire man and asked could hiim if I could drive it. He said put the spair on. Had another tire do this years later. Seemed they did it when they were getting to the point that I needed new ones.

My 97 does that around 60 to 70 mph, but it's not consistent, I've even taken the tire's off my 97 ford, and put them on the Dodge, and still have the same vibration. Could it be shock's or wore suspension or front drive line?

Doh! Should've mentioned that a ujoint should have *no* play in it.

Look at everything that rotates, from the front tires to the rear tires, and everything in between.

Not long ago, I had a bad vibration over that speed or so. My rear ujoints were past worn out (they were original at 300k miles).

When a new problem shows up right after work has been performed,go back and check everything that was touched while doing that work

Hello,
My sincere thanks to all suggestions re my vibration issue. Sorry for the late response! I had the carrier bearing
replaced as well as all three u-joints while drive shaft was out. This combination has solved the problem. Only downside
is I don't now the specific reason but don't care. The front u-joint had fair amt of wear & the carrier bearing had a considerable
amt. Thanks again for all the help
