After chasing a vibration for a year that really seemed to be a tire problem, simple maintenance solved the problem. I have balanced tires multiple times, added new ujoints with the 2 piece, changed to 1 piece DS, removed and installed front drvie shaft chasing this thing thru the drive train. Next step was going to be a t-case tail shift housing change as there is some slack there.
About 15k ago I had a rear caliper hang and di not catch it until it was metal on metal. Not bad on eating the rotr so threw a set of cheap brake shoes on until I could research parts. Installed EBC slotted rotors, EBC green pads, and A1 Cardone calipers last weekend. Wonder of wonders the annoying vibration that was really bad from 72-75 is COMPLETELY gone. In fact, the whole driving range has improved the subtle vibrations to where it is noticeably smoother. Still a light buzz there and suspect the worn front rotors are the source. They are not warped to feel it in the steering wheel but my guess is they are warped enoug to throw some subtle vibes thru the drive train.
Looks like once they wear to a point they are about done they unbalance and cause a lot of subtle vibrations that drive on nuts. #@$%!
Moral of the story, if you have vibration issues and high mileage rotors that have never been changed, suspect these composite rotors being the issue.
