Friend has had his truck in my shop for a few days trying to chase a driveline vibration. Here's the story: it's a 2007. 5 quad cab shortbox 4x4. A few months ago a vibration appeared and he chased it down to find a frozen front rear driveshaft u-joint. It also took out the tailshaft seal so he changed it also. Vibration returned in short order and took out another seal. So he suspected that he possibly installed the u-joint incorrectly. He replaced the u-joint and this time the vibration was much worse. Removing the rear driveshaft eliminated the vibration. So he brought it over and we pulled off the tailshaft extension housing on the transfer case. The bushing appeared worn so we installed a new one (entire extension housing). Nothing changed. My fear is that the initial u-joint failure damaged the tailshaft output bearing but we can't feel any movement in the tailshaft? We would like to try a different driveshaft but no one around here has one that will fit and the closest dealer is an 8 hour ferry ride away?
Are we missing anything? Driveshaft or output bearing?
