Vibration, tires?

I have a vibration generated from the rear for a while. Had annoying front pull to the right. Hit a small whole with rigth front tire, rigth pull stopped. But started pulling to left then added front shimmy like the tire was bouncing. Thought shock was broken. Had scheduled regular service at my new mecahnics(old mechanic is now working there)so I told him to check out front end and rear.
Front right tire belt broke. Rear left tire belt was ready to let go. We had truck jacked up in the rear,(tires off ground)put it in gear, tire started to wobble around 20 mph at the 40 to 45 mph zone it started shake the right rear tire also, matter of fact it shook the whole rear end,the mechanic watching the tire, thought the truck was going to come off the jack. At higher and lower speeds it wobbled alot and you could tell it was out of round.
Tires have just over 40'000, no sign of un- even wear. No I didn't rotate them much,but they never showed any wear problems.
Will see if vibration is still around on new set of tires, until then the Mule stays close to home base. Very close.

New tires and new aluminum wheels cured the rear vibration. Ten pound difference in factory standard wheel(rim) and new wheels.

Went to Michelin LTX M/S LT265/75R16 Load range E tires.

Still slight pull to right, sometimes to left.

I'm just glad about no vibration between 40 and 45. Just think for 40,000 miles these tires(maybe rear rims) have been driving me crazy.
If anyone want to feel like they are diving over wash board road at 40/45 mph I have a few rims that mite do the job. G:uaranteed with the tires that were on them(sorry I let tire dealer keep them). #ad

i had rear vibration , pulled all 4 rears
duelly 93 ran up to 80 jacked up(dua)
still shock, turned out a out of round drum.
bot new and worked out, i watched lug nuts
rotate out of round,
went to tire shop at lease 10x to bal
tires, shop weent as far, (other car they
did also bal was bad, i told them its their ele balancer, yes they canned it, tonight
went and bal 1 frt tire, w/ there new balancer, it worked great, i think most
ftr wheel shimmy after hitting a bump in rd
is from poorly balanced tire if it shakes, and if something is worn (tie rods) it
will shake reminber newtons law for every
action there is a reaction, some causes the
shake( bad bal) with loose parts(play)
it will shake until u slow down.

WHat size wheels? 8" or 10" wide?

Have the steel 6. 5" wide ones now with the 245's, want to go to a 265 or 285 with either a 8 or 10" wide rim. ANy big deal either way?

My tires seemed to be balanced alright. I had a front one pop belt bad. Quarter of tire on one side of tread was at least two inches higher than other half. One of my rear tires was starting to do same thing. The vibration started on my oringinal set toward the end of their life. Been wanting aluminum wheels so to make sure the oem rims were not causing vibe also I spent some money.

I put on 16x8 wheel no problem. Your tire dealer should be able to help you with wheel width. I would think if you went with wider tire you need wider wheel.
I found out wheels can be offset or inset(not right term). Another words you can have wheel/tire sticking way out of wheel well or keep it in wheel well. If I recall correctly the further it sticks out the less weight rating it will have. Mine are -3 this sticks out a little more than my stock rim but the wheel is still rated at 3000 lbs.
Mine are Pacer's but American Racing also have wheels with decent weight ratings. Looking thru books wheels with (+) widths stick out more(-) widths stay under more. A wheel from Pacer called outlawII (was on display) had -10 and had weight rating of 3200 lbs. But came in 16x7 so Pacer aluminum mod was used instead, this wheel is a Baha style. I learned quite a bit by looking thru all of the manufactures catalogs while waiting for tires and wheel to be put on. I suggest to look at them first so you know if the style you want is made in size you want. Good Luck, Missouri Mule

Are all of these tires original Goodyear tires that came on the truck? There have been some reports that the original tires are developing seperations between the layers and some are thought to have contributed to accidents. Could this be something similar to the Firestone/Bridgestone problem?

The OEM tires wer Goodyear Wrangler RTS 245/75R16 I had no troug=ble with those tires that I know of(67000 on first set).
My second set I wanted more agressive tire so I tried the Goodyear Wrangler ATS 245/75R16. These tires kept me from putting truck in 4 wheel drive evert time I went off the road( grass, some sand or dirt). They also stuck to the road good in any weather condition( rain and hot down hear) but the tread was softer rubber then RTS which caused it to run hotter when highway driving. This I believe also caused them to wear out faster(40,000 replaced with at least 10,000 tread still on it).

The Firestone tires were throwing tread probably because of poor manufacturing defective material, high speed, under inflated. Light truck tires especially load range E tires because of extra plys(10 total) take longer/harder to get rid of heat, correct inflation is a must for running highway speeds( my brother flys low in his Explorer never had a problem), staying under 85 mph is too.

To make sure I don't over heat tires I keep them at max pressure or close to it( front 70, rear 80). The aluminum wheels should help out on heat problem also. Aluminum dissipates heat quicker than cast iron or steel.

The Goodyear problem I saw on news these were belts popping or rolling out of place. No thread being thrown. Belts doing either can make you think you on wash out road and no shocks, this mite cause accident. I don't know why the belts pop/roll I have to reseach the causes but I would assume Goodyears recall is because poor manufacturing or defective material. I don't believe to much heat will cause this.

I think throwing tread from tire would be more dangerous. But than again it depends how much belt was displaced on recall tires. My belt was only about 20% to 25%(front) and caused immediate vibration. I also wasn't on highway at time and vibration was at low speeds. The rear was just starting(5%).
