I have a 2007 Mega Cab 2500 with the 2 piece driveline. I was head back the the hotel from the location which is a little over an hour away. I started feel a vibration, not bad but definitely something was wrong. I pulled into the hotel and got under the truck and the rubber for the carrier bearing was completely gone and the driveline was up against the transfer case. The rubber boot for the seal was completely gone. Found a mechanic who could fix it right away but now at about 73 mph I get a vibration. Could the slip joint on the driveline hit the oil pump in the transfer case or pushed on the output shaft when it slid forward or maybe it’s something else? Looking for ideas on where to look for this.

Are you only having this one vibration? Is the new vibration discernable from the last?

I don't have any experience with two piece drive shafts but Hot shot trucker I follow on YouTube has gone through many... carrier bearings, some bad out of the box from O'Rilley's. It may be worth looking at an OEM Joint if there aren't any reputable aftermarket replacements.

Have you checked all the U Joints and front shaft joints?

The u joints are fairly new and it is different than when the carrier bearing went out. I have locking hubs on the front so the front is kind of out of the picture.

If you didn't have any vibration prior to the shot carrier but a now a new one post the replaced carrier; I'd be looking at the most recently installed one. Do you know what mfg. made it ?

Are the u-joints still in phase? The driveshaft may not have been reassembled exactly as it came apart. If the two piece driveshaft is balanced as an assembly then reassembling the shafts 180 degrees out would cause a vibration too. Look for some sort of marking on the driveshafts that would show the mechanic properly marked the driveshaft before removal to ensure it was reassembled the same way.

@JeffS07, was the two-piece driveshaft correctly phased at the slip yoke connection when it was re-installed? Some driveshafts are indexed so the slip yoke can only be assembled one way. Others can be fitted in multiple positions. For example, my two-piece driveshaft on my '02 is indexed in a manner that it can be fitted in two positions 180° apart.

It's bent or the u-joint install was pooched, get a 1 piece DS. If you want to fix all the problems at once get a driveline from the San Antonio Driveline shop and replace the rear flange with an open yoke.

Try clocking the yoke to the differential before you get carried away. If they didn't mark it and have it 180 off it could cause a vibration. It's free and easy first. I always say, what did we do to break it. If it didn't vibrate before it is something they did.
