Saw these neat plugs in a MSC flier. They are NPT threaded plugs that have a window so you can see the level & condition of a lubricant. These may be handy for the front & rear differential covers, standard transmission fill plug, transfer case fill plug and maybe others I can't think of.

The 'Full' level for most of the above
drivetrain parts are to the bottom of the fill hole.

I still think the plug would work OK. You should still be able to see the level & condition of the lube. The viewport lenses are available in glass, plastic and a baffled model.

Bill,I used to have two Ferrari tractors(that's right, same company that makes the racers, they are heavy into Ag equipment in Europe also)that had this type of view port on the tractor's 3 gearboxes, they were worthless. There's just not enough light on the backside of the of the veiwport to see anything but black.

Thanks for the tip ilflem. They caught my eye the other day. I had never saw them before. I read in the literature that the baffled plug is to be used with dark colored lubricants.
