I'm trying to determine what the VIN code is for the factory-intercooled trucks should be. The FSM shows a code of 8, but that is the same code as the non-intercooled trucks. Parts stores show code C, as does the VIN on my truck. Would everyone look at your VIN and post the code, this code is found in the 8th position of the VIN.

PS 8th digit from the left sorry :)

Mine has a C in the 8th digit from the left side of the VIN. The 8th digit from the left side is a P. This is looking threw the windshield.

The factory intercooled is "C". THe 8 was not non-intercooled. Do not go by what is in a Haynes type manual... it is incorrect. I haven't checked what was in my factory manual. Somewhere, I once found a printout that showed exactly what every position in the VIn stood for. Not sure if I have it anymore or not.

Carl the FSM (factory Service Manual) has this same error that is the purpose of this poll. :)

Below is from a 92 FSM

I have an 8; Mom has a C. I have had them both, with my current one being the only nonIC of 6 trucks. (in other words, I've had some IC trucks with a C and others with an 8) Not sure of the pattern. I'll see if I have any paperwork from previous trucks.

I think the 89-91. 5? trucks that had no intercooler would be a code 8 & the 91. 5-93 with the intercooler should be a code C. I was just wanting to confirm that.

The reason is the 91. 5 & up trucks with intercooler seem to have the computer. I have found an inexpensive scan tool, if you input code 8 it goes  , if you input code C then it is :) . The problem is, to verify the proper code, I need to hook it to an operable truck and my is still down.

both my 93's are c-code and intercooled. i can say that cause the wife aint here, she's quick to remind me only one of the 93's is mine :-laf

mine has the C in the 8th position, now take in mind im not familiar with the 1st. gen trucks, mine is a 92, but i think mine is intercooled
