I've been looking at this '03 3500 and have noticed from other posts here that somewhere there is a site or 2 to decode vin numbers and find out the history of the truck. the one I'm looking at has a VIN # of 3D3MU48C03G738108.

That looks like it will decode the VIN for build info but there will be no service reocrd unless you get into DC's records or something like carfax.

The truck has had the lift pump and injector pump replaced under warranty (but not at the same time!) and it has one outstanding recall to reprogram the ECM. It also has extended warranty service that may be able to be passed on. It looks like they did the injector pump then di the lift pump a few hundred miles later. If the LP was bad I wonder if it starved the injector pump any???

Thanks, that's good to know that this kind of work has been done in the past. But your right about the concern with the lift pump being replaced a few hundred miles later. This truck is in Denver, at a dodge dealer, and we are going there next week and thought I'd stop by and take a look at it. It only has 35,000 miles on it ... so knowing this information I wonder if the previous owner ditched it because of to many problems...

The pumps were replaced around 34,400 miles so the owner must have dumped it right after getting it fixed. If it is at a dealer I would ask them to do the recall that is outstanding. Since it is an ECM reprogram it can have a big effect on the way the truck runs.

Ooooh, Black Sport Laramie!! Sounds nice. Nothing really on this one, something to do with the fule tank over a year ago and the ECM has been reflashed. Soundsl ike a sweet truck.

Can some one explain to me what a VIN number is? I know what a VIN is and I know what a vehicle identification number is, but can someone tell me what a vehicle identification number number is? One of those top secret big brother things? :-laf
