Is there a web site where I can enter my VIN and get back Info about what features the truck has? I am particularly interested in my rear end gear ratio. It is worn off of the sticker inside the hood. Thanks.

Don't they still put a tag between a couple of the cover bolts? (or am just thinking of my old Ford)

Welcome to the TDR. The VIN can be decoded to a certain extent to explain the GVW, production plant and other general information, but I think most dealers can print you a "build report" that shows exactly which options came on your truck from the factory i. e. rear-end ratio, limited-slip, color, interior options, etc. based on your exact VIN.

This should be a good start:

As far as the rear end ratio - Some others have posted on how to jack up the rear end and look to see how many revolutions the axle makes for every one the wheel goes round.

Like bighammer says, there may be a plate between the two cover bolts . . .

VIN Decoding

Go to www.dodgeram.org. Click on Specs/TSB's. Under Vehicle-go to VIN Decoding.

Don't think VIN will give you gear rations but you might find it in this site somewhere.

Good Luck!

Sorry guys; Guess I was typing while Kyle was posting. So, yeah, what he said!

Well, I can only speak for the 2002 ETH/DEE 3500's, but on these trucks, 70 MPH in 6th gear equals the following with LT235/85R-16E tires:

4. 10 rear axle - 2350 RPM

3. 54 rear axle - 2000 RPM

Maybe this will give you a clue.

Don't know whether this would apply to Dodge trucks but on GM trucks the glovebox has a decal on the inside of the lid with all/most of the RPO (Regular Production Option) codes. For example: GT4=3. 73 rear axle ratio.

On my 03 Dodge CTD on the inside of glove box there is a sticker indicating the gear ratio 3. 73 and also has the paint codes for the truck.

Timberline Dodge in Portland ran my vin# and printed up 4 pages of stuff. Every thing you need to know and things you don't.
