Violent A/C Compressor!

Anyone out there have a similar problem with their A/C compressor coming on with a big bang? Mine comes on with way too much authority to be comfortable with. It usually does it when the truck is just started, and the A/C on. :{

I just noticed that mine is doing that... ... ... . it's only when the truck is started cold, with the air on. I've even turned the air off and started it..... it's OK... ... but when I turn the air on, the same happens.

It's not a "bang" as much as it is a "rush of air" that's really loud.

After running it doesn't happen any more, just on cold start up.

I going to the dealer Wed to complete the install of the factory alarm that i bought with my truck and I intend to ask about this.

I took mine in for another reason and asked that they check this out as well. They said there's nothing wrong, it's normal. Obviously they didn't hear it. It only happens to me about every tenth time I turn on the AC and only once when I first turn it on. The first time I heard it I actually got out and looked to be sure the compressor was still attached

Its normal. Do a search on here and you will find that it has been talked about quite a bit.

Normal..... I always thought it was the compressor trying to live up to all the diesel noise and get noticed!!!

You notice it worse if it cools down nice at night. First thing in the am when you fire it up it sounds like the clutch is going to snap off. Mine has been doing it every day for 20,000 miles, and the 03 did it all summer last year. It is just the clutch slipping as it comes up to speed.

I had a AC Tech tell me once to shut the ac off a few minutes before you arrive at your destition. Gives it time to blead off and will extend the life of your system.
