Greetings all.

I have some family in Lovettsville, Virginia who are considering purchasing a new Cummins powered Dodge. Can anyone recommend a dealer that will take good care of them?

Thanks in advance.

I would, but might be a bit far to drive, you know?

Yes, I'm sure they would be willing to travel 45 minutes or so.

There is value in having a knowledgeable dealer with good service.

Mod friendly wouldn't hurt either. I don't think they would do any excessive bombing. But I think it is good to have an understanding service department.

I typically deal with Union Sales in Martinsburg. It's probably about a 45 minute ride from Lovettsville. However if I would have known of Tomeygun before I bought the truck, I would have bought from him. I would prefer to support a TDR member

I am reasonably sure they will be getting the employee pricing, so there really won't be any financial negotiations, other than maybe interest rates.

I believe customer service is most important.

If they won't go buy from Tomeygun, I'd buy another truck from Marlow Motors in Front Royal. They were honest and great to deal with. i did all negotiations over the phone. and when I got there they knocked another $300 off the price:D. And honestly there wasn't much to the negotiations, I told them a deal I found and asked would they beat it, came back on the phone and said yes. So I got the truck for $200 over invoice, minus all rebates. and this was in Nov '02, not alot of dealers were willing to really deal on the new style HD. I drove from an hour N of Pittsburgh to pick it up and it was ready to go with paperwork ready to sign.

a few weeks after buying the truck I had a power steering hose go out. I had it towed into my local dealer and had to wait a week for the part. my dealer wasn't willing to give me a loaner. I called Marlow and told them what was going on and they offered to rent me a car, FREE OF CHARGE TO ME!!! If they are this willing to help someone 300+ miles away that may never purchase another vehicle from them...

I've been pretty happy with Fair Oaks Dodge in Fairfax, VA and Sam Makalou in particular. I can't speak for their knowledge of the CTD or the truck in general (I do my own research and just go to the dealer to buy; no questions to be answered other than "can I see this option and that option"). They have been easy to deal with and their service department has also been easy to deal with. The only CTD service I have asked for was to have my leaking injection pump replaced and the new steering hose installed and they did those well. They did not fight me on either even though the pump was not leaking at that particular moment and their database didn't show the new hose applying to the HO CTD. Not all dealers would do that. Also, if you go in for warranty service you get a free rental.

I got mine at Manassas Dodge, but probably paid more'n I needed to. They've been pretty good about keeping my truck serviced. Rick Hunt Dodge in Warrenton has a pretty good reputation from what I hear as well, and they're a pretty big store. Stay away from anything with Rosenthal in the name!

I got mine from Brown's Dulles Dodge in Chantilly. Paid invoice, got a good deal on extened wrnty(everything covered 'til 100k). I've lived in northern Va for 22yrs and they have the best two diesel techs in the area. Their top guy, Dwayne is putting the Banks on for me when uncle sam finally "ponies up". The GM is Andy he's real easy to deal with.

First post here on TDR. Great site, tons of info. I am hoping to move into a Cummins 600 in the next week or two although we'll see how the Commander in Chief (wife) has to say about the budget. I currently drive a Dakota with the 4. 7V-8 so the dfference should be amazing to me! I tow about two times a week a 5000 lbs boat trailer, and tow about once a month a 400 mile trip to NY or NC or 605 miles to GA. I realze this is a light load, but the Dakota is overwhelmed on any hill, and I have gone through brakes and parts in 60k miles. . time to upgrade before the bigger boat comes this spring.

I live in Northern Virginia and am glad ya'll posted about Virginia dealers. My next question pertains to those folks with the 6spd trans here in the DC area. . are they driveable in this God forsaken traffic? Or are you all running the 48re around town?

Thanks for all the help I've been getting by lurking for about 4 mos. BTW!

I wouldn't worry about the 6-speed in traffic. I've been commuting with my 5-speed here for some time. One good thing about the manual (among others) is you can creep along in 1st in jammed traffic, in gear, and almost never have to touch the brakes unless the traffic actually stops. Forces those behind you to be alert.

As you may notice from my sig. I converted the truck from an auto. Yes the auto is a little less demanding in traffic, however I did notice in hot weather, while creeping, the trans oil temp tended to get uncomfortably hot (had installed a temp gauge). The newer auto's may exhibit the same temp rise. I'll never own an automatic again.

Regarding local area dealers, over the years, I've noticed Fair Oaks Dodge ALWAYS charges 20%+ higher prices for any part than everyone else in the area. Done a lot of comparative pricing for stuff. Parts dept of Lustine Dodge has always treated me well. None of the service departments of the dealers with whom I've done business (Ourisman, Lustine, Fair Oaks, Koons, Manassas) are anything but average. Nothing to avoid, but nothing to recommend.

Lustine. . I get chills when I think about their sales staff, but for service they've been ok for my Dakota. I bought my Dakota at Koons in FFX and I just met the internet sales manager today by a chance happening actually! LOL He's hiring me to put some doors up in his townhome. I told him what I'm looking for and he just got one this morning. Automatic though, and atlantic blue and silver tutone. Not real big on that color, and he says that the invoice is $36,900! It has the 600, auto, tow pkg, clearance lights. . it seems loaded. I am figuring either his invoice is the fake one we all see "first glance" or this is a loaded Laramie. Don't want that. . I want to be around $32k or so. . invoice. Wow. . seems high after looking at Tomeyguns quote from a little while back.

I run the 48RE and love the convenience of it, though I agree that the 6 speed can creep well in traffic. If you're in the area it's worth the visit or call to Brown's Dulles Dodge(relatively new store) askfor /see Andy, the GM, if he'll match other offers. They are the best I've found in the area.

My last truck was purchased from Ourisman but their service was N/A. Brown's has the complete package IMHO.

I'll give em a shout

I'll try out Browns. They don't have what I'm looking for in stock, but I am sure they could find one easy enough. I may have to visit Tomeygun though! LOL It seems the price he had posted for teh 25004x with the 6spd was $32,900. . that is 4 k cheaper than what I've been quoted so far! I am thinking the truck this guy quoted me on was truely loaded though.
