Virus Removal

I have followed this thread with interest,https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141183&page=2 as it appears that I have picked up a virus (not on the computer I am using now!!). I followed the sites already suggested and tried them, had spysweeper already onboard which detected the virus. Downloaded avast which detected the virus also, but neither will remove :{ .

they both give me the remove option, and when done, it just shows that the virus is still there. Avast immediately repeats giving you the remove option, and shows that nothing was done?



The virus is named trojan-downloader-ruin, per both spysweeper and avast.



The system is windows ME, and unfortunately I do not have the disks for it, so cannot do a rebuild.



Suggestions, comments, any help would be appreciated.

Windows ME has a system restore program running in the background by default that may be replacing it everytime you clean it up. Try turning this off if you have not already... ... ... ... . I turn it off regardless because it can eat up disk space and can bog down your CPU.

Can you advise me on how to do that, turn the system restore off?

Most of the time I can follow instructions, especially with computers is the the only way I seem to get it right

I have not run ME in a while but you will need to go inyo My Computer/properties as dicussed here

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001012513122239?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam and into the system utilities program found in system tools folder called "system information" to completely shut it down. There should be plenty of help out on the net to help you do this. It is pretty simple and if it works and you want the safety of having a restore point when you are done you can turn it back on.

This particular virus appears to be a real problem, well for me anyway ?

It appears as though it is reading attempts to remove it through the resources I have available, and then not allowing it to happen. Avast, Spy Sweeper, others immediately see it, but on the remove portion, it just doesn't work.



Anyway will try the resources referenced.
