I spoke with a salesman at Les Schwab today. He was very helpful and made some calls to find out if Vision has any plans to to make their 19. 5 wheel in the correct off set for our trucks. At this time they have no plans to do so. The zero off set wheel they make now works well with the early Dodge, early GM, and Fords to current. The only chance we have to get the wheels made is if they see enough interest to make it worth their while. The new Ram is a 1. 7 off set, the newer GM is 1. 125. The guy I talked to said it might be possible to get Vision to make the wheels if they had enough interest. If they made a wheel that had an off set somewhere between 1. 250 and 1. 5 they could capture the market for both the Dodge and the GM. I recommend anyone interested in a set of 19. 5 wheels call your local Les Schwab and ask them to have this wheel made. The Vision wheels are $150 less per wheel than the Ricksons.

I have been doing a lot of research on wheels for my new 2004. 5 and am somewhat confused by the term offset. the first post in this thread says the new wheels have a 1. 7 offset. Is this a measurement in inches, mm or what. and what does it measure(from/to). Also I don't know how much backspace we can use. I have a srw 3500 fourwheel drive.

Thanks

Hoagie :)

offset is usually in mm's, but if you see 1. 7, that's gotta be inches [1. 7" = ±43mm]

i don't like offset measurements, cause they change with the width of the rim. backspacing is a more usefull measurement i think. backspacing doesn't change with width of wheel...

I guess I bought mine to soon. Oh well, I am happy with them. Oo.

Any photos you could email? I would like to see what they look like from the front and back of the truck. I don't think I want my wheels sticking an 1 3/4" more than stock. Not to mention the potential alignment problems it can cause.

are you guys saying that the offset is different for 04. 5 than from 03 and 04?

I believe the offset changed in 2003. Check out www.ricksontruck.com they show the offsets for the different years. Now that I think about it, I think their web page show the new offset as 2002 and up. That does'nt make sense though, didn't the 2002 trucks still have Dana's?

if you could post a link that would maybe get more response or a least a number

I'm assuming you want a link to Les Schwab? They are a chain and you can get a number for the closest store at www.lesschwab.com. To see the wheels you have to click on the link to their online catalog and then go to page 5 or 6. I think the rim is the style 86 but I could be wrong. It's not hard to figure out which rim it is though.

Gino

The vision wheels have a 0mm offset. The stock trucks (I beleive 2001 and up) have a -40mm offset. These Vision wheels will set out about 1. 7" farther than the stock wheels on all of the third gen trucks. I saw a set on a 2001 with 225/70/19. 5's and the outside edge of the tire was flush with the wheel well. These tires are so small (about 31") the wheel protruded outside the tire and practically dwarfed the tires. I didn't at all like how it looked and with a larger tire they would have been outside the fenders.

how much exactly do you guys think these visions cost vs. ricksons? i've done google searches and found not much. the lesschwabb.com site pretty much... sucks. flashy and not very informative. would like links to pictures, specs and prices.

my ricksons were $242 each. they're rated to 4500# and are black steel 19. 5 x 6. 75. btw, i'm selling 5 them with 1 brand new tire (mounted/balanced) and 3 used tires (mounted - can be used for retreads) for $1000.

I went to Les Schwab in Grants Pass, OR back in April and they have a set of Vision 19. 5 wheels with 245/70 mounted on them. I wanted some wide tires on them like 265 or 285. They told me that 245 was the biggest tire they could put on the rim because of the rims width. So I didn't get them.

They quote me the Vision rims and 245/70x 19. 5 mounted for under $2300.

The guy you spoke with obviously didn't know what he was talking about. The vision rim is 7. 5" wide and will easily take the larger tire. Check out www.ricksontruck.com they give the rim width required for the different tire sizes.

The Vision wheels are right around $250 each, $150 a wheel cheaper than the Rickson aluminum wheels that are not avaiable yet in the correct offset either. I want an aluminum wheel to keep my rolling weight down.

AH OK 10-4. I have to say I don't think the alum wheels is going to make much of a difference. My guess is most of the weight is in the tire. But... alloy wheels + 225 Load range G's vs steel wheels + 245 Load range H's may be quite a difference. I don't understand why everyone is obsessed with WIDTH. 265, 285... why even bother? I got 245's and would go for 225's next time around.

That is not a fair comparison because these wheels are not the correct offset. You're right, they are and will be cheaper than Rickson's but these are also cast, not forged.

Scott;

To be honest I didn't think to look at whether one was cast or forged so I will have to take your word for it. As far as a fair comparison based on offset goes, I have to disagree with you. The Ricksons that will cost you $390 some odd dollars a piece are not the right offset either. And, quite frankly the offset really shouldn't change the price of the rim.

Gino

How the h#ll do you spell check with this new software?

The aluminum rims are just over one half the weight of the steel rims. A weight savings of roughly 30 lbs per wheel. I'm with you on the width. I like a tall narrow tire. I plan on a set of 245's and have even been thinking about the really narrow 8R19. 5 tires Rickson has on their site.

Gino

You're right, the offset should not affect the price. I would love to have a set of aluminum wheels with the proper offset but I'm not willing to buy another set of 17" tires while I wait and I hate the "stick out" look so I went steel. The rolling weight will be more but I plan to go with 285's to get the height I want so is the weight of the wheel really going to make that much diffrence? These are big heavy tires.

Can't help wit the spell check, I prefer to show my ignorance ;)
