headed to Framingham Massachusetts

President Reagan's boyhood home in Dixon, IL

It was an excellent 250 MI round trip for my family and I  (used short of a 1/2 tank of fuel). This store is amazing :--) , aside from the catalog coming to life, there are amazing wildlife displays and the firearm section was a jaw dropper too. I am not a hunter or a sportsman but I do respect (and slightly envy) those lifestyles. I went there for the experience and to purchase some excellent clothes for the upcoming season.

On the way out, I heard a great unusual sound at the far end of the huge parking lot and it was getting closer. The source revealed itself. It was a 2nd Gen CTD, straightpiped handshaker, rowing gears with twin whips off the mirrors and maybe slightly lifted dark color. That truck sounded real nice though it never got real close.

Yeah, that store is amazing. I was out there last week and it was like a CTD homecoming :D I'm only about 30 mins. from there. Glad you enjoyed the trip.

I was camping out that way when they were building it.

Robin Hill is a pretty nice campground if you'd like to make a weekend of it.

It's a couple minutes east of the store.

I drive through another campground, I think the name was red rocks, or indian rocks. Didnt like it.

I did enjoy the trip (I'll be going again in a couple weeks-ALONE) but I-78 is kinda beat up for an interstate- haven't been on there for a few years. The truck handled the ruts and etc. very well. I hope it handles like this years down the road.

I like that area of Pa. My Brother-in-law lives near York. If I had to relocate somewhere I would seriously consider that area.

Speaking of Cabelas. I got a letter in the mail Saturday from Cabela/Ford. It was "Cabelas" discount good for $500 on a Ford. I tore off the postcard, which you were suppose to take into the dealer, and wrote over the printing in heavy black ink.

"I had a '65 F250 4x4 for nine years. It was a good truck. However I now have owned three Dodge CTDs. My current truck is a 1 ton 4x4 dually CTD and I wouldn't trade it for a Chevy or a Ford. Thanks anyway.

I figure this should at least cost them several cents for the postage and if everybody mailed it in it would cost them a bundle and they wouldn't mail me again. :D

There's one in Shartlesville which is maybe six miles west of Cabela's. I don't know the name but some of my in law's camped there and liked it. You can also go to Hagg's for lunch. Shartlesville exit south, hang a left and look for the bright yellow building. It's PA Dutch so if your watching your calories, pass on by.

I live about 30 minutes north of Cabela's. Guess one of these days I should stop in when I have the time and money.

OTD, The Ford/Cabela's coziness was VERY apparent. There were many powerjokes in the parking lot too, but I think there were just as many CTD's there too.

Have you ever heard of Deer lake?

Someone told me it was pretty nice there, I was thinking on maybe getting some land up that way.

KINDA BEAT UP????...

Now that has got to be the understatement of the day,LOL. I-78 is one of,if not the worst, maintained Interstate highways in this state. One of the major problems with this road is the demise of it is the unbelievable amount of overloaded trash haulers coming from the NJ/NY metro area hauling into the local dumps. This small section of interstate, all 78 miles of it,handles a insane amount of traffic also. Its a pity our Commonwealth can not,nor has done anything,to aleviate the traffic congestion or done any major upgrades to the surface or to help the amount of traffic it handles. We drivers in the industry call this section of interstate "Trash Can Alley" for the number of trash trucks and how many of them have created accidents on this road. This road is a disgrace and thats a fact.

Now to Cabela's...

These stores are amazing to stop at and you better have alot of time and may even wish to set a extra day just to really cover the whole store. Its a trip worth the ride to spend a day just gawking at all they have there. Better arive early or you'll be riding the tram car train into the store as you will find your parking place out in peanut heaven,LOL.

Wayne. .

Let me know if you get into the York,PA area as its my stomping grounds and my Flame Red Rattler is not hard to find... ... ... ... ... Andy

I also passed by Cabelas this weekend on a visit to Long Island. If time allowed, I would have stopped. Kinda glad I didn't. Probably would've killed too much time!!!!!!!

Can't argue with you there. We've got some ugly roads. :( However I've driven a bit on the Cross Bronx Expressway Oo. ... . They should have a wheel alignment shop on either side. They would make enough money to eliminate the tolls :-laf

I think the name of that campground is/was Mountain Springs. I haven't been there in a long time but used to love going there as a kid. They still have Rodeo's there on occasion.

Deer Lake is only fifteen minutes or so north of Cabela's. That's probably in the Blue Mountain School District which = high taxes relative to Schulykill County in general.

Mountain Springs Campground. That's it. Thanks master1578 for the campground name.

I was in the one in Kansas City earlier this year. What a place. Cripes it had its own hotel and campgorund. A far cry from the one in I think it was in Kearney Nebraska that I had been to previously.

I have been to Kearney and Sidney's. Kearney is tiny, and Sidney's was the largest of the 3, at the time, now they have built a few more. I have been to the Sidney one 3 times and my buddy and I plan to take a private plane there sometime soon. Bought an hour by plane from Denver. Fly into the airport and a shuttle will take you to the store. Sweet!
