Visiting Chicago.

I am going to Chicago on 11/8 for five days to see my daughter graduate navy boot camp at the Great lakes training command. My other two kids and I will get to share her liberty. So I am asking you folks for some suggestions on where to go and what to do. We'll get to spend friday afternoon and the weekend together so please let me know of some nice things to do with the family. We are staying in Waukegan after flying into Midway on the 8th. Navy Pier, several good musuems, including Musuem of Science and Industry, Field Musuem of Natural History, Shedd Aquarium. Lots of shopping downtown, Sears Tower.

You might try the river tour. Pretty interesting. We did it when my daughter graduated. Dress warm!

My wife and i visit mostly once a year. As mentioned already, those activities liKe cruising the river is a must. Might i suggest gino's east pizzeria downtown not to far from the pier. google them. well worth the wait for deep dish pizza. Any way hope ya have fun , i myself miss chi town..... Go Navy..... There are some many things to do in Chicago. I would buy a City Pass it will get you into all the museums. Chicago Sightseeing, Tours, Activites and Vacation Adventures - Reserve Tours and Tickets Online. You will save a lot if you go to the attractions. I also recommend using the train to get down town. Depending on the time you are on the road. You could waiste a lot of time on the road. You will not go Hungry here these people know how to eat.

I am stationed at RTC Great Lakes I am currently working at Battle Stations 21. It is a awsome new toy the Navy just bought, to test our new sailors. They get the ship underway, fight fires, flooding, Egress from a smoke filled space and rescue bodies from a compartment that has been hit my a missle. I wish I could convinced my son to join the Navy I think he would have had a lot more fun. You should be proud of your daughter she made a good choice.

Keep them coming. So far I see suggested activities that i saw on yahoo searches but its nice to hear from those that have actually done them. So far my favorite is "Pot Belly subs, Johny Rockets burgers & malts, and Wieners Circle Char Dogs. MMMM". Out here on the left coast we get allot of "Chicago Style" wanabe's. But I am looking forward to the real thing to try to clog a few arteries.

Giordano's Pizza is worth your time if you're looking for some Chicago fare. They've got several locations in the northwest suburbs. I second the suggestions for Navy Pier as well, although it's probably going to be miserable on the lake this time of year.

Portillo's for hot dogs is always on my to-do list. They have locations all over the Chicago area... .
