The S80 commercials are really bothering me. I'm all for safety, driving SMART and under control, whether it's at the speed limit of twice the posted speed limit, in a power slide, during a burnout or getting passed by grandma in while in the right lane warming up the motor. But these added features just bother me.
Last I checked, "inattentive driving" was a driving infraction that is ticketable, but not a very big ticket. It's something they may get your face smashed in if this is the cause of hitting me in my vehicle. So is speeding, but that's not what i'm talking about. Speeding is safe with in limits of you, your car and your surroundings, looking at the radio or going for your purse on the floor IS NOT.
So they have 2 TV ads that I keep seeing.
Blind spot. Ohh my gosh, your not looking in all your mirrors enough to not see that bike way way back and approaching. Naturally you never turned your head to check the blind spot. YOU DO NOT NEED THIS ALARM, if you passed Drivers Ed 101! But hey, his hands were at 10 and 2 on the wheel! They made sure you see that!
Brake warning. (see above comment) So Volvo is advocating taking your eyes off the road on the side of you with the blind spot. So now they are cool with the front as well? They even SHOWED this driver looking for something on the floor! How they heck did they get away with that to show a "safety feature" that allows you to do this? And when this system fails? "officer, my car didn't tell me some one was slowing down in front me... ... ".
I dunno what else to say here. How the heck did the D. O. T allow these features? I'm at a loss for words as to how to describe how retarded this is.
Some old VW commercials come to mind as well. My favorite one being the one where they are stopped in traffic in the MIDDLE of an intersection and a driver runs a red light going in the adjacent direction and impacts the VW. What kind of an "good driver" stops there and not at the line before the intersection when there is stop and go traffic. I wouldn't wanna be blocking traffic if the light cycles.
