I have a voltage problem. . i think.

I am in Flemingsburg Kentucky up from south FL. On the way up i noticed the volt gauge was almost pegged. the problem is it will fluctuate from almost pegged down to 8. When it does it all the lights will dim and i can hear somthing "click" under the hood.

I took it to the dealer about 20min from where im at and they would not look at it, they said they were booked.

I am supposed to leave for FL tommorow, im wondering if it will be ok on the way back because im going to be hauling meat and dont want to be stranded. By the way its an 06' bone stock.

Unhook your grid heaters, make sure you tape them up with electrical tape. Your grid heater solonoid has a piece of metal floating in it causing it to intermittently short. You will need a new solonoid.

Thanks for the reply.

Where does it connect? Is it the connection directly behind the intake, the flat one with the two nuts one black and one gold?

It is near the battery on the passenger side and has two big cables, one coming from the battery and the other going across the front of the engine to the grid heater. It also has two small wires, a black one and that has a yellow tracer, unplugging either of these should disable the grid heater/solenoid. I have not seen mine either peg the meter or go as low as 8 volts when the heater does come on. ??? Hope that is the problem, easy to resolve. bg PS How big was the deer?

I hope thats the problem as well. . i will find out very soon.

The deer was good. Im hauling back 350 pounds. and ive been here only 3 days. :-laf

Thanks for the help guys that was the problem. The check engine light came on but i guess thats normal.

By the way it was 2 deers one 150 and the other 200 dressed
