Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) VP 44 dead

Canadian truck, '01 235hp auto no start... ... Did all the steps from Blue Chip and come down to dead VP. Was offered a low hour Scheid pump or go the SO reman route... ... ... . Any opinions. . Thanks

I bought a pump through Chip last year. His experience in these trucks is second to none in my opinion. I bought one through him because about 6 months prior to my pump going bad I was having an issue throwing a 0237 (low map signal input). He spent a half hour on the phone with me discussing possible reasons I was throwing the code. In the end, it was simple leak in the elbow coming out of the intercooler. He didnt make a dime off me that day but was more than happy to help. Thats what I call customer service, except I wasnt even a customer to him at that point. Whatever you decide, I would definitely recomend getting one with a new computer. They cost more up front, but at least you know what your getting. Buying a pump with a used computer is risky. Just because they pass a bench test doesnt mean they will last much beyond the warranty. You could very well be in the same position a year down the road, broke down needing a new pump. :{

Thanks for your replies... . Found this truck before Christmas with trees growing thru it and decided to build a runner... ... . Might have been easier to jack up the horn and put a new truck under it. . Lost the VP 10 days after installing an Edge EZ... . Not the Edge's fault... I think it just exposed a weakness that was already there..... Truck seemed harder on fuel than the 9 or so other Dodge trucks I have owned... Now I know why... . Have now replaced just about every piece on this truck... not complaining, just the price of an education... . Because I use the truck on the farm as a run around and hauler, I decided to keep the EZ with the ability to turn down the power when pulling loads to control EGT's and add power when I just want a lighter feel on the pedal... . I have already installed a Fass pump and 4" FloPro exhaust. After lots of reading, found my way to Taber Diesel in Alberta and spoke to Mike..... Bosch OEM reman center and major supplier of pumps and injectors to shops all over Canada... ... Bought an SO pump from them with all Bosch parts... ... They treated me well... . Should get it in a few days... ..... Rob
